I know I'm not the only person on this forum who loves Demon's Souls and is looking forward to Dark Souls with the same rabid anticipation that a crackhead looks toward their next fix.

So, lets talk about one of the best new RPG franchises out there. Tips, tricks, farming strategies and plain old bitching, advice and gloating.

Just recently I found that the best way to farm for souls is to go to the Archstone for the Old Hero with a Pure Black World Tendency, then work your way backwards, using Soul Suck. If you do it properly, you can get around two million souls fairly quickly.

I went completely neckbeard on Demon Souls, to the point where I actually platinumed it, Farming is best done in world 4-2 iirc, PBWT and going backwards through the entrance from 4-3 (where you fight the boss) and killing the skeletons out on the landing.

They are the only ones that drop certain items and give a decent amount of souls from what I recall.

Apparently From Software has an interesting way in dealing with those that got a copy early, either through a broken street date or via other means.

Of course, I wonder if they really know if they're getting punished, or just think that having to deal with such an enemy is par for the course.

I doubt I would have noticed knowing how it went with Demon's Souls.

Also, what seems like a seemingly conincidental coincidence, <a href="https://www.joystiq.com/2011/09/22/atlus-continues-demons-souls-server-support-into-2012/"; target="_blank">Atlus is keeping the servers running for Demon's Souls into 2012</a>.

So, yay. I should get back into that game.

Hope you guys aren't keeping too excited about this game. It sounds like a huge drop down in quality from Demon's Souls. :/ It's more King's Field in the Demon's Souls engine than Demon's Souls 2. The difficulty is spiked way up (and not in a good way) and the promised "seamless world" isn't all that seamless. Progression sounds strictly linear, too. There's also a really bad glitch that causes character death that hopefully will be fixed.

All of the pre-review articles that I've read have been raving over the quality of the game, especially IGN's coverage. I don't think I've heard of anything that makes it sound less than excellent.

I mean, if you watch the video that I posted in the thread, at the very least, the first two hours look great.

Not to doubt it, but where did you see these things pop up? I couldn't find anything about them aside from glitches with NPC's disappearing.

And if you're talking about the overpowered Black Phantoms, that was to punish those that bought the game early.

Someone who is in Japan who is playing the game. Apparently a lot of Japanese gamers are encountering the same problems he is. Oh and the "fix" introduced new problems, like NPC's disappearing and loading the trophy set causes the game to freeze.

The original glitch I was talking about was some sort of bug with the buffering causing you to do attacks without meaning to. Like, pressing a button for attacking would do nothing and then when you try to block an enemy, you attack instead. Like imagine that ATB glitch in FFIVA where the buffer would really delay commends, but in an action RPG where one wrong move can cause a horrible death.

Also IGN is terrible and I wouldn't take a single word of theirs seriously. I saw that "Why Dark Souls will be better than Skyrim" piece and it was some of the worst fanboy hyperbole nonsense I've ever seen. Especially since that drivel was comparing Demon's Souls and Oblivion rather than their sequels.

Just calling it as I sees it. For all we know these issues will be fixed by the US release. I was actually looking forward to this game since I missed out on Demon's Souls due to lack of PS3. But reading impressions of people who've played the Japanese release hasn't been encouraging. And I trust these folk (who are HUGE Demon's Souls fans so it's not like they have an axe to grind) more than some so-called "game journalists."

I think Giant Bomb's pretty trustworthy when it comes to coverage, since it was founded by Jeff Gerstman when he was fired for giving a bad review to a game that was sponsoring Gamestop at that time.

Fallout and bullshit involving Gerstmann's firing from Gamespot aside, I was never fond of the guy's game opinions (I hated his Zelda TP review, but I suspect I'm one of the very few people who hated it for thinking he was being too generous). I personally trust his opinion on games as far as I could throw him. And I'm not a freak of nature and he's morbidly obese so that isn't very far.

Same guy I'm following who's playing Dark Souls now thinks all this glowing praise from the West for the game is due to peer pressure or "hardcore gamer" cred because of how good Demon's Souls was. Wouldn't be surprised if that was the case. It wouldn't be the first time that a highly anticipated sequel to a popular game gets a free pass in spite of some real objective problems and bugs.

He does stress it's a good game. But it's a disappointing sequel to something he considers one of the greatest games ever made. Though if you're a fan of the King's Field series you'll probably love it.

EDIT: Gamespot, not Gamestop. My bitter ex-employee mind immediately associates "bullshit" with "Gamestop."
