Okay, I get where you're coming from because I'm, well...I'm me. I understand that you're trying to measure your expectations and everything because Demon's Souls was a seriously great game, and you don't really expect anything else to live up to it. Hell, I don't either. But from literally every single source that I've seen I'm getting nothing but good news. And the proof is right there, man! Gameplay videos are everywhere. First impressions are pouring in. Everyone is loving this thing!

Just relax, man. Reeeeelaaaax. Dark Souls is a good game. You're going to pop this sumbitch in your machine next Tuesday, and you're going to be blown away. Relax.

"Of Christ's twelve Apostles Judas alone proved to be traitor. But if he had acquired power, he would have represented the other eleven Apostles as traitors, and also all the lesser Apostles whom Luke numbers as seventy." - Leon Trotsky

I have a blog. This is its URL. You should read it. It's about education and skepticism and books and it has a lot of pictures of Batman and Robin in it: https://baldermoon.wordpress.com/

I'm just saying you folk playing the game and loving it is going to weigh much more on my expectations and likelihood to get it than some game journalists. I have an extremely negative view of what most game journalists think/say and word of mouth from my fellow gamers who aren't on a payroll are just much more trustworthy.

Right now the only people I know playing it (again, Japanese version so these bugs could be fixed day 1 of US release) like it, but are still disappointed by it. I think what concerns me most are the complaints about the difficulty. I think one of the things that makes Demon's Souls sound so engaging is that it's a hard game, but it's a fair one, too. Dark Souls sounds like it's hard because of some glitches (like the buffer bug which has since bee patched and fixed) or unfairness, and it doesn't have the same flexibility as Demon's Souls in overcoming your suckiness. And the difficulty of Demon's Souls has sort of gained its own life as a sort of legend that critics feel pressured not to criticize it for being hard even if it's Fake/Bullshit Difficulty instead of Demon's Good Difficulty. After all, who's going to take a review seriously complaining about a game being hard when the challenge was one of the things that made its predecessor so loved by critics and gamers alike?

Same guy I'm following who's playing Dark Souls now thinks all this glowing praise from the West for the game is due to peer pressure or "hardcore gamer" cred because of how good Demon's Souls was. Wouldn't be surprised if that was the case. It wouldn't be the first time that a highly anticipated sequel to a popular game gets a free pass in spite of some real objective problems and bugs.

I noticed this too ... if Dark Souls start to get 9's from critics I might just end up laughing. Not because it's a bad game or because it doesn't deserve it (because I haven't played it yet) but because its going to get a higher score than Demon's Souls but, since hype, was not present in the earlier title ... Dark Souls will end up getting more love.

I think this was the best description of Dark Souls I found online:
Strategy Informer
Let's get one thing straight: Dark Souls hates you. It hates who you are and what you stand for. It hates your friends, it hates your spouse, it hates your family, it hates your pets, it hates every single little thing about you right down to the fact that you even exist. It's not your fault - you didn't upset it, you didn't insult it's mother or it's religion... the only thing you really 'did' was want to play it, and for that it hates you so much it will do it's very best to kill you. Often.

Seems like Namco underestimated the demand for this game.

Someone I know went to a Walmart to get a copy with his friend. They got the only two copies the store had.

One would think that after the run away hit that was Demon's Souls, Namco would have seen this coming.

But then again, it is Namco, and they hate the West for some undisclosed reason.

I must say, Namco might have underestimated, but at Gamestop yesterday they had a fat stack of like, 10 PS3 and 10 360 copies on the shelf behind them, and those were just extra. The preorder drawer the guy opened to give me my copy of Rage had a couple Dark Souls collector's edition and 5 or 6 other copies of it in there.

Maybe they just sent all the copies to Gamestops and forgot about everyone else.

Mine was apparently delayed a day.  I should be getting my copy today.

Amazon refunded the shipping cost as a result.

Listened to some of the soundtrack...definitely not Sakuraba's greatest work.  Chorus gets annoying quick.  Probably better in context.
