Hopefully, I (and my girlfriend) will get this next week. It will be our first legit Pokemon games as well as my first Nintendo console/handheld since the Famicom.

So, girlfriend bought our 3DSes yesterday as well as a copy of Pokemon X and Y. Started playing early today and...I can't stop petting my Fenniken. He's so cute. Help. :(

I really like the fact that you can customize how your character looks =D I also really love the training and petting system that they put and with the online interactions too, very sweet

Hahahah, in about a day, managed to get my Fennekin and my gift Torchic into level 5 affection. Currently trying to get my Pikachu there as well.

The only really sucky thing about X/Y is that

there's only about 70 new Pokemon in the game. I don't think they've ever done less than 100.

Yeah, the new pokes definitely feel a bit thin on the ground this time around. Definitely missing the Grass-types - as far as new Grass-types go it's Gogoat or fuckall for ages and ages.

I'm loving it so far, but this game is too damn easy - as the series has gone on, the "beating the Pokemon League" bit of the game has felt less and less like the main story and more like the prologue to the endgame stuff, but this takes the cake in that respect. 5 badges so far and not once have I broken a sweat. Not that these games were ever exactly hard, but still - all the fun things they've added to make your life simplerhave had the unfortunate effect of making it too simple. Hoping the end-game stuff is better.

So, this being my first Pokemon game, I have to ask: is anyone having the problem of deciding what moves to keep and discard for your 'mons, especially in assigning field moves like Cut and Rock Smash? My OC nature is preventing me from putting those in on my main Pokemons but I know I can't delay not using them either as some items need those to be available. So far, I have assigned Cut to Honedge because you know, sword.

Halp. :(

A common thing to do in Pokemon games is to have a party of 5 battling pokemon and have one set aside for utility, known as a HM slave. This one doesn't really fight, but you keep it around to know moves like Cut, Strength, Rock Smash etc. My HM slave at the moment is a Steelix I got in a trade.

You do this because most of the HM moves can't be forgotten normally and are generally a bit shit in terms of battling - notable exceptions being things like Surf and Waterfall, both high-power, reliable moves.
