I usually cheer for England, since Canada and Scotland are never there, but Germany and the Netherlands are always favourites of mine as well. Both of those have looked damned impressive so far.

Always pull for Netherlands, but am also rooting for Belgium this year, since half their squad seems to play (and I use that term loosely) for Chelsea.

Been good so far, and I actually converted a fellow firefighter the other day during Costa Rica-Uruguay. He said he never watches, but sat down with me anyway, and after a dozen or so oohs and aahs he asked if any more games were on that night, as we were both going home at 7 pm. I told him England-Italy was on, and he said he might go home and crack a beer and watch the game. It's amazing how people can appreciate the sport at its highest levels if they just sit down and pay attention. It isn't always exciting, but it's often as exciting as a NFL game. Once naysayers realize how much of the action is build-up and missed opportunities, and stop focusing on low scorelines (which, thankfully, have been few and far between in this tournament), they can actually get into the games.

What are the odds there would be just one draw through, what...14 games? That game (Nigeria-Iran) was the penance for such a great tournament so far.

I was seeing that on the ESPN.com feed. Sounds exciting.

It was nice to see team USA win its first match, but I don't think it looked very impressive in the process. Ghana seemed to control the game for the middle 90 minutes. A better opponent would have likely scored more than one goal.

Credit to the American players for playing hard after Ghana tied the game. Nice goal on the corner kick.
