George Lucas is adding to Star Wars again...

The fans are mad because they feel like they're being made fools of. That's insecurity, yes... but Lucas is at fault here too. He has shown zero integrity as an artist (<span class="squiggly" title="To see spelling suggestions, click this word">coughcough</span>) and is simply making a mockery of it all at this point. Just because he can digitally add a pipe smoking chimpanzee with a top hat doesn't mean he should. There's correcting errors and then there's stupid.

This has gotten stupid.

This is delicious. This will stoke fanboy rage the internet over for at least a decade. If I were Lucas, I'd be doing precisely this for precisely that reason.

Honestly, the changes are lame, but it's not like that scene was Shakespeare to begin with. Twenty-three years of Vader's cold-hearted evildoing is washed away by twenty seconds of "Daddy, help me!"

Insert witty remark here.

<p style="text-align: left;">CGI Yoda in episode 1 makes sense. The rest of it...just please leave it the fuck alone.

There's always been the argument that the film is his film. It makes me damn glad the beautiful works of art from the past were taken from the artist and kept.

Would da Vinci have started pissing on the Mona Lisa for fun left to his own devices? It makes me feel like no one has any respect for a work fo art being done and having inherent flaws as a part of its being. A good artist knows when to stop on their own work. George Lucas is unfortunately not that.

He stops based on resources he has instead of a vision or having an understanding of done. He is a consumer rather than an artist.

Still here...

That clip isn't really from the Blu-Ray, it's just an edit someone has made. It's what the scene might sound like.

I do believe George has the right to change what he wants. I also believe he's not perfect, in fact far from it. And I believe I have the right to think his changes are pointless, needless, silly, and arbitrary, and the right to bitch and moan about it.

I have the original edition DVDs for such a time as I feel the need to watch Star Wars again, so this does not affect me in the slightest.

IMO it's his damn movie and he can do whatever he wants with it.

I've thought it ridiculous the amount of whining the fan base has done about these things for years. Every one will bitch and moan and bitch and moan and then magically Lucas will make billions in sales or a product no one supposedly liked the idea of to begin with.
I'm sorry, but this isn't a valid point.

Artists know when to leave their shit alone. I don't think too highly of Spielberg anymore, but has he done anything to Jaws or Close Encounters despite how dated they both look? Has Scorcese gone in to digitally touch up Godfather Part III so that it doesn't suck? Do any of the great living artists pull their paintings, sculpture, etc. out of the galleries and touch them up with new techniques that they've learned since then? Of course they don't. Art is art. When it's released to the public, it's finished.

A lot of people say that George Lucas is nothing more than a businessman, and I almost agree with them. The man knows how to make money off of the gullibility of naive fans and the unscrupulous consumer along with children who don't know any better and parents that don't give a shit about what their crotch fruit conume. But no. It's the 'nothing more' that I don't agree with, because at the bottom of everything, the man is just a child who was given a fancy new computer and can't stop fucking around with it.

Thankfully, there are diligent people out there who know far better than George who have touched up the original prints so that they're at or near blu ray quality. The intrepid internet user can find these projects rather easily. Give these people your money and your thanks, and stop giving money to this demented child who just can't stop fucking over the people who made him his fortune in the first place.

I have a blog. This is its URL. You should read it. It's about education and skepticism and books and it has a lot of pictures of Batman and Robin in it: https://baldermoon.wordpress.com/

Not even Scorcese could have saved Godfather Part III.

I dunno. Digitally insert a few Banthas, show that Michael wasn't such a bad guy after all by having him always be the second person to shoot...

Appropriate.

Regarding "NOOOOOOOOOO!" Part 2, to quote Booker T, "WHAT DA HALE?!" I don't make a big deal about these things usually, but this is beyond stupid.
