Uuuh, not far really, I remember reading a tale about a donkey?, I'm pretty sure it was the first tale.
It does sound enticing, the way you are describing the rest of the book; my problem was how women were being described as lying cheating creatures that are out there just to deceive you and break your heart and laugh at the pieces (or something like that), but I also remember reading about the two brothers being cheated on; I guess I could have been a bit more understanding on the chaps?. I'll give the book a second try.

Yeah, the story with the donkey and the bull is one of the ones that really just is bizarre in how it treats the woman, and is also the very first story in the book. :P  There's another one where the main woman turns out to be a brutal, vengeful witch, but beyond those two, I can't think of any other stories where the woman are treated badly.   In the very last story, Ali Baba and the Forty Thieves, the main female is the heroine, and is remarkably intelligent and kind, saving her master from the thieves repeatedly, and then being set free at the end. You really should give it a second try.

And also, you don't need to read the stories in order at all.  Some stories are linked together in a larger story, but most of them are stand-alone, and the the only connection they have is that Scheherazare is the primary narrator.  Many stories don't even mention that they are being told by Scheherezade, and are completely stand-alone.

Finished reading The Wheelman by Duane Swierczynski.

Trying to figure out if his unique style is a good thing because it makes me like him more for writing it, or if it's a bad thing because there isn't more of this kind of writing out there.  Even in the same genre, I can't find anybody that writes like Swierczynski and this kind of makes me sad.  His rapid-fire scenes, multiple POVs, and damn near perfect pacing make him one of my favorite authors, and an extremely rare gem in the crime genre.

Have since read Bill Maher's new New Rules book as well as Mindy Kahlig's Is Everyone Hanging out Without Me? which were both entertaining and light reads. Now planning on picking up The Girl Who Played With Fire and I also have The Hunger Games and Skeleton Crew to finish.
How is The Hunger Games ?
I've been hearing so much praise, I'm a little suspicious...

I've not read it yet, but my girlfriend has and really enjoyed it. For reference, she likes Vonnegut, Harry Potter and Roald Dahl in the realm of fiction.

Reading Wicked: The Life and Times of the Wicked Witch of the West.

Also going back and reading The Wonderful Wizard of Oz, then it's on to Alice in Wonderland & Through the Looking Glass.

Those tables in the kids' section at the library are low to the ground, but man are they ever comfortable to sit at.  Well, that's only if there are no kids around XD

Hunger Games is teen fiction in the realm of Harry Potter, except with the subject material of Battle Royale.

Yep, still gaming

Free Spirit, you were right, I picked the book up again and ignored the donkey one and went to the second one, about the guy killing the genie's son by accident and I'm finding it very entertaining. I've noticed that mine is not the complete book, hmmm, I'll have to chase the real thing.
Thank you for advising me to give it a second chance!.

I read last night a book of poetry by a chinese poet that was called Han-Shan, he quit an unsatisfactory life and went up to live in a mountain by himself, very nice. Too bad poetry books last me a day or so, though. ;)

Just finished The Great Gatsby. As much as I enjoyed some of the symbolism, the American Dream isn't really a touchstone of my culture and everyone in this book is an arsehole, so I didn't really get it but at least I have a reason. Will read again, probably. Someday.

Just finished Wizard and Glass.  I know that the book gets a lot of flak, but I enjoy it.

Every now and then, I take a break from reading almost nothing but hardboiled.

This time I decided it was time for one and picked up Threshold by Caitlin R. Kiernan, because I've got two unread Kiernan novels and why not finish off the rest of her stuff?  It's kind of weird reading an author's later novels, then going back and reading early work.  I should do it more often.  It's incredibly interesting to see how much a writer's grown and improved over the years (or in some cases the opposite).  And it's more striking to do it like that than to read everything in order and watch them grow with time.  It's more striking to see the difference full-on, going from their most recent to something early, rather than seeing all the changes and refinements of style improve over time.

Just picked up Faulkners As I Lay Dying. I'm liking it so far. Also realized I need to finish Ready Player One, all the post surgery dilauded made me forget to finish the last hundred pages.

As I Lay Dying made absolutely no sense to me, until I had a class with an awesome Lit teacher.  Then I got it, and it's still floating around in my top 25 somwhere.

Reading the first half of Ink Spell for the third time. Maybe this time I'll go ALL the way through it.

I just finished reading Tales of Earthsea, a collection of short stories set in the relam of Earthsea, mostly related to the history of Earthsea, and not set in the "now" of the series. Most of them were short and sweet, and very much typical Le Guin style prose, but she does get rather boring when she describes the magic. It seems more like telling than showing, even when the show is plain and simple. The magic of a brick turning into a butterfly isn't met with the magic of the words. It's just a minor irksome part when it comes to reading fantasy books.

Before that was Animal Farm. Boy, was that ham fisted.

Before that was For Whom the Bell Tolls and that was... harsh. Just absolutely harsh. Full on stuff.

Reading the Cleanest Race ... its essentially a book understanding the North Korean people and the history and myths that has shapped their way of thought.
