DISCLAIMER/CONTACT INFO =============================================================================== A. PRELUDE =============================================================================== Final Fantasy is one of the most heavily-hyped and played game series in existence. People have written countless guides and FAQs detailing the stats for every enemy, area, and piece of materia. They have told what to do for every step you ever take. This is not one of those walkthroughs. The purpose of this walkthrough is to get you, the reader, to beat the game in the least amount of time, with the least amount of trouble. This guide will not tell you how to get Master Magic, how to beat the Weapons, how to breed your chocobos, or any such non-essential stuff. This guide will tell you which materia to throw away, which tactics to use to bowl over enemies in the least amount of time, which characters to use when, and which side quests you don't want to undertake. That being said, we are willing to stoop to any low, use any game glitch or oversight, and any cheap tactic to reach our goals. There is no item duplication method too cheap, no Pot-Elixir experience collection too simple, no evil Gi boss too easy if our cheese tactics can be done more quickly than "the right way." NOTE: This walkthrough has been written under the assumption that you, the reader, have a brain. If this does not describe you, read a different walkthrough. This guide will not tell you absolutely everything for every little step in the game. You are expected to be able to figure some things out if you cannot understand the guide, and even use past knowledge to assist you in your journey. Hit the 'back' button right now if you do not fit these simple qualifications. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- FINAL FANTASY 7 : TECHNICAL DATA ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Game Type: PlayStation Discs: 3 Memory Card Consumption: 1 block/save Players: 1 Genre: Adventure/RPG Publisher: Squaresoft/SCEA Year: 1997 =============================================================================== B. READ THIS BEFORE YOU BEGIN =============================================================================== PREMISES ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Before you start, you absolutely must be aware of the guidelines that this guide's writers follow strictly... 1.) You never run from battles! This is not an absolute, but it is damn close to one. If two of your characters are dead and you're left with one who has a quarter of their full health, then you may run. But if you know you can win the battle, even if you get severely damaged in the process, by all means, win it. Speed would suggest you skip battles, but being underlevelled hurts a lot more than being overlevelled. Being underlevelled means you have to waste ridiculous amounts of time gaining levels you should have already had. IT IS A FACT that 95% of all problems faced throughout this game could have been solved by not running from random battles in the past. IT IS A FACT! 2.) Fury is your friend. The moment you can buy hypers, BUY THEM! Stock up tons of them! You should make an effort to always have all 3 of your party members in Fury at all times. They will break their limits VERY quickly, easily outweighing the meager loss of attack precision that comes with it. 3.) That being said, after Rocket Town, do not sleep at inns that charge you money! Every time you sleep, Fury is negated. That's 300 gil in hypers you shouldn't have to spend, combined with the 100 that most inns charge. Tents are 500. That's a 100-gil loss, but by Nibelheim, you should be able to easily afford it. 4.) Money is a non-issue. If it becomes an issue, fight a few battles and it won't be an issue any more. Once you get W-Item or master an All materia, you will never have to worry about money again. Most "money issues" arise from people buying materia they never use and running away from battles. 5.) Don't sell your items! All of the good items that should be worth massive amounts of money are worth 1. If it's worth something as a sale, then it's too useful to throw away. The exception to this is Ethers being sold after W-Item duplication and explicitly-cited accessories. 6.) Don't sell your weapons! The diversity of Materia slot organizations is worth every penny of keeping them. 7.) Don't sell armor unless you have something that is better in every way! Higher defense is not always a good thing. 8.) Never EVER sell materia, with the exception of ONE mastered All materia, UNLESS you're overflowing with junk materia created when a Mastered materia divided. 9.) Secret characters are throw-aways! Vincent is worthless because his limits cause you to lose control of him, making him useless against bosses, and a horrible choice against the final boss. Yuffie's stats are abysmal, but you might want to pick her up LATE in the game because of her throw materia. Picking her up early means being forced to go through a very annoying side quest much earlier than you should. 10.) Never EVER use your last Megalixer, Elixir, Hero Drink, X-Potion, or M-Tentacles! They should be kept in stock and duplicated. 11.) Maintain 3 saves: The first is a "safe" save. It is only to be used when you can easily rest, fight some random battles, and buy stuff. The second is a "hostile" save. It is to be used in areas which you need to fight to get out of. The third is a "risk taken" or "deep" save. It is to be used if you just did something you think you might regret or you haven't been able to use your first save slot for a long time. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- ADVICE ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- These are followed much less strictly than the Premises by us, but they are tips that should be followed whenever possible unless stated otherwise. 1.) Don't throw all of your curative magic on one person. 2.) Don't strive for a balanced party. Strive for a lop-sided and overlevelled party composed of the best characters. This means go for a "final party," the party you want to face off against the final boss, along with one "insurance" character for when one of the others become unavailable. Our advice is to keep Cloud, Barret, and Cid in your party as much as possible with Red XIII used to fill the gaps. The three aforementioned have the best limit abilities and do the most to completely kick the ass of bosses later down the line. Red XIII has good attack power and decent limits and is therefore a good filler. Tifa can also be used well. 3.) Keep Aeris in your party until you get Cid because she has good limits, and having her leveled up will make the Temple of the Ancients infinitely easier. 4.) If you have Barret in your main party, then keep him in the front row until you pass Nibelheim because he will get his limit broken more, which helps, and it's not like he's going to die anyway because he has so much HP. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- STUFF THAT IS TOTALLY WORTHLESS ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- The following items are worthless in the long run and should be avoided. They will make your gil disappear without helping you much. Seal materia: Silence rarely works against the enemies it's needed most on, same goes for Sleepel. Mystify materia: Confu only works against crap enemies that usually die in one hit anyway. Berserk makes enemies stronger and doesn't work often on magic-using enemies (which break your limits more often) Earth materia: Not nearly as damaging as the main elements and a hell of a lot more expensive. Heal materia: Antidotes are cheap, Remedies are cheap by the time you get Esuna, Resist isn't worth it. Knights of the Round: Not worth the time, at least not in this walkthrough! Good chocobos: You can do without them. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- STUFF YOU MUST GET ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- The following things are all one more step towards making FF7 the easiest FF to date. You absolutely must get them. L4 Suicide - Burns dragons bad, allowing for quick and easy experience gaining. Melts Cactuars down for easy AP. Magic Hammer - Makes MP a non-issue. White Wind - Good for healing, great for removing status ailments. Trine - Overpowered. Aqualung - Overpowered. Magic Breath - Overpowered. Big Guard - Makes bosses infinitely easier. W-Item materia - Duplicates items! Need more be said? Makes money and healing non-issues. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- STUFF YOU SHOULD THINK TWICE ABOUT BEFORE PASSING UP ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- These items take some time to get, but are probably worth it in the long run. Mystile - Makes you practically immune to physical attacks because they all miss. Scimitar + Apocalypse - Triple materia growth! Pots in the Northern Crater can be coupled with these for maniacally fast materia growth. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- CHEATS AND EMPLOYED BUGS ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Fairness aside, true speed can only be achieved by using cheats. These are bugs in the game but are either not tremendously useful or are found late in the game. Therefore, their usefulness as cheats is questionable. W-Item Duplication: The most important bug/cheat employed by this guide. It can be used to duplicate any battle-usable item. To do this, equip W-Item on a character. In battle, select the W-Item command. Choose the item you want to duplicate, then select a target. Select another item, and then hit Cancel to cancel target selection. A copy of the first item will appear in your inventory. Hitting "OK, Cancel, OK, Cancel" repeatedly will allow you to get a massive amount of items quickly. No back attack: If you find yourself in a back attack, quickly hold L1 and R1 to start running away, then release them. Your characters will do an about face and look at your attackers. This prevents you from taking excessive damage in back attacks. You still need to re-arrange your lineup manually though. =============================================================================== C. MAIN WALKTHROUGH =============================================================================== WARNINGS/CONVENTIONS ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- If you haven't read up on the big list of tips above, do so. This guide will occasionally mark things as: LEVEL RANGE: A-B Your lowest-leveled character must be at or above level A, your highest must be at or above level B. If they aren't, you either haven't been using an insurance character, have been running away from too many battles, or just need to level up. GIL ADVISED: X You should ideally have a certain amount of gil by a this point. If you don't, you should fight some battles until you do. MUST ACQUIRE: X If you didn't get this, go get it. If you can't get it, reset. This one is not taken lightly. Take a look at Premise 11 to avoid getting stuck. CHEESE ALERT! What you are about to do is wrong. It is against the designer's wishes. It is also faster. !!WARNING!! Before you take another step, heed this warning, lest you do something you will be slapping your forehead to in 5 minutes. "Screen" refers to a distinct area of play in the game. When the display fades to black and loads another area, then you have entered a new "screen." This word will never be used in walkthrough context to describe your television screen. This is done to avoid confusion. ******************************************************************************* DISC 1 ******************************************************************************* ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- I. SECTOR 1 REACTOR ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- When you get control, search the first guard for 2 potions, then go to the menu and configure the game as you like. I strongly advise setting message speed to fast, field message speed to Fast, and raising the battle speed a bit. Also, set ATB to Wait. The ATB setting is not mandatory, but strongly advised for speed reasons. Once the game is configured to your liking, head forward to your first battle! Feel the suspense as you mash the attack button and win! Head out and up the stairs, approach the group. After some chatter, you can set your name. Barret will come in, the door will open, you get to set Barret's name, and you can walk in. Follow the group into the reactor. Next screen, head up into the reactor. Barret will talk, then join your party. Head up, talk to Biggs (dark-haired one) to open the first door, then Jessie (light-haired one) to open the other. If you want a Phoenix Down, head down and open the chest. Go right through the door into the elevator. Push the switch in the elevator. Barret will talk, the elevator will hit bottom. Head out of the elevator. Follow Jessie to the next screen. On the next screen, jump over the pit, follow Jessie down the ladder, and grab the potion at her feet. Go down the ramp and down the ladder to the next screen. Cross the pipes, head down the ladder, and save if you want. Continue down the platform until you reach the end. Pick up the Restore materia, and then continue to the end. After some talking, you'll get in a boss battle. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- BOSS: Guard Scorpian ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- This is the second-easiest boss you'll fight in the game. Attack with Barret, cast Bolt with Cloud. After about 4 rounds of slappage, it'll raise its tail. Attacking it while its tail is up is a pretty bad idea, so don't do it. When it puts it down, pummel it the same way you did before, use limit breaks if you've got 'em, and it will die. SPOILS: Assault Gun ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Equip the Assault Gun on Barret and backtrack to the place Jessie stopped. Talk to Jessie and free her foot, then backtrack until you reach the entrance of the reactor. You'll be stopped by a FMV showing the reactor exploding. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- II. REACTOR 1 AFTERMATH ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Jessie will blast you out of the rubble and more chatter will ensue. Go up the way Barret goes into the main city. Talk to the girl who gets knocked over (Aeris), and say whatever you want. NOTE: Aeris and Tifa are both contenders for a gondola ride with you later on. However, which one joins you depends on your decisions. That being said, in this guide, any decisions in which the answer is not explicitly given are not important in any respect other than storyline, and therefore you may choose either one with no loss. Go down to the next screen, grab the Potion along the left side of the screen, then head down. You'll face several soldier battles, each of which is pathetically easy. Fight all of them. After a cutscene of Cloud jumping on a train and talking to the Avalanche guys, head down. Talk to Jessie, and after some chatting, talk to Barret. After another cutscene, you'll wind up at the Sector 7 train station. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- III. SECTOR 7 SLUMS: PART 1 - THE NEW PLAN ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Get off the train and talk to Barret. After some chatter, go left, then left again. After a sequence, talk to Barret. If he refuses to let you in, talk to him again until he does. Go in. You'll get more talking and be able to name Tifa. Attempt to leave and Barret will run in. Follow him downstairs. Talk to Barret and after his babble attempt to go back upstairs and Tifa will come down. After more talk, go back upstairs. Attempt to leave and Tifa will come up. She'll ask if you're just going to give up on your childhood friend. After a massive cutscene, including Barret giving you 1500 gil, and you sleeping, head back upstairs. Tifa will talk to you, saying she's going. Talk to Barret and he will ask you how to use materia. Tell him that he wouldn't understand unless you want to go through the tutorial. Go out and down to the shop on the left. Buy some fire materia and anything else you want then go to the next shop. Buy some armor from the guy on the left and anything else you want then go to the second level. Pick up the materia on the right, the guy will talk to you and then take the ether out of the box. You may now leave the sector 7 by going back and getting on the train. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- IV. TRAIN ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- After Barret does some stupid crap, go talk to Tifa and the alarm will go off. Before going to the next train talk to the bum at the back of the car for a phoenix down, then proceed to the next car. After some talk, talk to the last guy before exiting to the next car for a hi-potion. After more talk run down towards the next car a guy will snicker at you. Go talk to him and tell him he's busted to get your money back and proceed to the next car. Continue all the way to the end and after more talk you will jump off the train. After some talk, go up to the next screen and go down the little passage on the left. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- V. SECTOR 5 REACTOR ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Pick up the ether and climb down the ladder at the end. After climbing down another ladder you will be in a big room with Wedge on the other side. Don't bother going over there, instead go up the first ladder that come to and crawl through the tunnel to where Jessie awaits you. Grab the item and the go to the bottom right and climb down the ladder. Here you can talk to Biggs grab a tent and save before climbing up the next ladder. Welcome back to a place that looks all too familiar. Go down the slide on the right side of the platform and then go around the tubes and then into the next room. Go all the way down to where you set the last bomb and then all the way back the way you did for the first reactor until you exit the elevator. Grab the item and go into the room on the left. After opening the door with minimal effort, go through and save. Go to the next area and prepare for one of the crappiest bosses in the game. After some talk between your members and President Shinra incomes the stupid boss. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- BOSS: Airbuster ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- This guy sucks! First hit him from behind with Barret. If he turns around then you can hit him with Cloud. If not him with Tifa. It's a very simple process. Just keep doing this until he dies or loses his ability to turn. In all my attempts to beat this fool he either dies before losing his turning ability or loses it while facing Cloud. Since he is weak against lightning then it is a good idea to put lightning on Cloud for maximum damage. He will definitely break your limits so no need to worry about that, just be sure to heal up at low HP levels because his attacks may surprise you. BTW, it is possible to beat this guy in one hit from behind with either Cloud or Barret's limit. Like I said, this guy is easy. SPOILS: Titan Bangle ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- After he blows up you will get some talk and Cloud will fall into the abyss below. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- VI. SECTOR 5 SLUMS ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- After some talk and stuff you will find yourself in a church in the slums with Aeris. Keeping talking to her and eventually you will get to name and then a man in a suit will walk in. Walk towards him and Aeris will say something and go talk to her again. After some chatter you will find yourself in the back of the church. Now give some armor to Aeris, put some materia on her, and move her to the front row. Go up and over to the staircase and climb up all the way to where you will jump over a whole in the floor. After some talk and the guards blasting Aeris to the floor below (how is she not dead?), some stupid guards will approach. Don't tell her to run and don't chuck barrels down because that's for wusses. Instead just tell her to fight 'em all. After that you will exit through the roof of the church. After more talk you will run across the roof of some buildings and get some more talk. You will eventually jump down to the ground below and then head left. No need to save as of right now. At the next screen go up. There are two shops at the bottom which have some items and some really crappy materia. There is a shop near the top with some weapons but I wouldn't pay anything for the Titan bangle since you will be getting better armor in about 5 minutes. Don't pick up the 1 gil in the house at the lower left because you can get a Turbo Ether later if you don't. Go to the upper right to get to Aeris' house. Be sure to pick up the stuff in her garden before you go in. After a lot of talk go upstairs and you will sleep and get a cutscene. When you wake up, do not run around or you will disturb Aeris. Be sure to pick up the items to the left of the bedroom door before you leave. Walk around the outside of the floor to go down or you will step on a creek in the floor and disturb Aeris. Exit the house. Now is a good point to save because the next part can be annoying if you are bad at following my oh so perfect instructions. Go to the next screen and then to the next screen. Go left and you will meet up with Aeris and enter the next screen which is a maze (blech). ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- VII. SECTOR 6 ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Now for the dumb useless part of the game... First go up the wood ramp. Then go across the steel beam to your right. After that go around that crack in the ground on your left, and go right and down through that pink mesh tunnel thing. Go around that elevated land that you just walked over and go up the wood planks at the end. Finally go down the wood ramp to the next screen. After some talking Aeris will walk towards the swingset and stop. Talk to her again and you when you regain control of your character go the way Aeris went to one of the most amusing places in the game. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- VIII. WALL MARKET ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- GIL ADVISED: 2600 gil First things first, the store where the kid is painting a cat is an item store where you can buy hypers, enter and buy 8 hypers so you can put you people in fury. After some talk go around the stuff on your right and down to the next screen to the Honeybee Inn. Talk to the fat guy talking to the suited guy and ask him if he has heard of Tifa. Then go back to the market. Go all the way up to the next screen. In this screen you will find a shop that has a sign that says "Machine Gun". Buy 3 mythril armlets, and new weapons for Tifa and Aeris, then exit. At the top end of the screen is a house, enter. Go up and talk to the door man. After some talk go back and down to the first screen in the market. The top shop on the left is a clothing store, enter. Talk to the cashier and after some talk, exit. Go up to the next screen and enter the first place on your left, it is a bar. On the right is a man with a brown hat sitting down, talk to him. Buy any kind of dress you want. Go back to the clothing store and and after some talk go back up to the screen with the bar and weapons shop. The place on the right is a gym, enter. Talk to the first person and then you will have to do squats. It doesn't matter whether you win or lose, after the crap, exit. Go back to the clothing store and change. After more talk, go back to the doorman at Corneo's mansion and talk to him and he will let you enter. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- IX. DON CORNEO'S MANSION ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- A suited guy will talk to you, after he leaves go up the stairs and all the way over to the room on the left. Go down the stairs into the torture room and after a Aeris talks to Tifa, go talk to her yourself. After a lot more talking you will regain control of your party. Grab the ether in the corner. Give all the materia you want experience on to Cloud. Don't forget to put Tifa in fury. Go back up the stairs and into the center door. Approach any one of Corneo's thugs and you then you will engage in more talking. Corneo SHOULD NOT pick you. You will enter a room with a bunch of droning morons. Grab the Phoenix down at the bottom right of the room. Talk to all of the drones, and then talk to Scotch. After some talking you will fight three thugs. They suck, just attack 'em. Then you will fight two more thugs and Scotch. Kill the thugs first so Scotch can break your limit faster. Just give Scotch your limit until he dies and then leave. If Corneo picked Tifa then go to the torture room to get Aeris. If not Tifa will just come out of the torture room and join your party again. Then go into Corneo's room and into the room in the back. After some talk with Corneo revealing a bunch of info go behind his bed to pick up a hyper. Try to leave and Corneo will talk to you and drop you into a pit. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- X. SEWER ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- After a cutscene at Shinra HQ you will find yourself in a sewer. Re-equip all of your party members to the way you see fit. Grab the two potions and then talk to Tifa and Aeris. Enter a boss that sucks. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- BOSS: Aps ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- This guy probably does more damage to himself than you do. Fire and Ice work well against this moron. Cure yourself if you get below 150 HP. Limit him when you can. He will help you destroy him by constantly casting Sewer Tsunami. All and all, you should never lose a character in this battle or you suck. SPOILS: Nothing ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- After some chat, climb the ladder and walk over to the other side of the screen and go down and around and pick up the Steal materia. Go down the opening at the end. Go down the stairs and up the stairs in the middle of that green thing and up the ladder at the end. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- XI. TRAIN GRAVEYARD ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Welcome to another maze! You may encounter white ghost things here, and if you do then cast cure on them and they will die. BTW, this is where I normally acquire Cross-Slash but that is not a given. Save and then go through the first car to get a hi-potion out of a barrel. Climb up on top of the first car to get another hi-potion, and then go across and jump onto the steel bridge. Go down the left side and get an echo screen out of the barrel at the top. Go under the steel bridge and enter another car and pick up a potion. Go out the bottom right side of that car and climb up onto the next car. Go down the next ladder and enter into another car picking up a potion and continuing to the next screen. Go around the car on your left for a potion and go around the obstruction on the left for a barrel containing an ether. All the way to the right side of the screen is a train engine that has a slightly different color than everything else, enter it to move it and the de-railed train. Go around it into another train engine to move that one. Go up the ladder on the right and grab a hi-potion then jump across onto the train engine and down the left all the way to the next screen. Before going to the following screen, de-equip Aeris' mythril armlet so you can equip it onto Barret later. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- XII. SECTOR 7 SLUMS: PART 2 - FIGHT ON THE TOWER ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- After a bunch of talking Aeris will leave your party. The fat guy on the left has some items you may buy. Save and then start up the tower. Just go all the way to the top where you will meet Barret. Re-equip your crap again and prepare for the first boss with a life that you fight. Be sure all of your guys are in fury before you fight. LEVEL RANGE: 9-11 ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- BOSS: Reno ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Reno is actually pretty good. He will cast pyramid on your guys sometimes and when he does just attack the pyramid to get rid of it. Just blast Reno with magic and limits until he leaves. SPOILS: Nothing ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- After some stuff Barret will grab a wire and say something so go over to him and you will get a cutscene. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- XIII. DESTRUCTION OF SECTOR 7 SLUMS AFTERMATH ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- After a long sequence you will regain control of Cloud back in the Sector 6 maze. Go back to Aeris' house and enter. After a lot of talking go upstairs and talk to Barret. Try to go and he and Marlene will talk to you. Then leave the house. Go back to the playground and pick up the sense materia. Go back to the wall market and go to the weapons shop. Talk to the shopkeeper who is on the left and buy the batteries for 300 gil. Buy some more hypers because there isn't another shop for a few hours. Go up and right to a big wall with graffiti all over it. Talk to the little kid. That's right, it's time for yet another maze. Climb up the wire to the next screen. Go to the end of the wire and jump left. Go down and across the bridge to the battery socket under the propeller. Plug in a battery and wait. Go up the propeller and right across the train tracks to another socket where you plug in another battery. Go up the gate and up to the swinging beam. To grab it, jump just a few frames before it reaches the closest point to you and then go up to the next screen. Climb up wire and down the next one to get an ether. Go back to the swinging beam and jump across again and back up to where you were before you went down to get the ether. Then continue all the way up to the top. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- XIV. SHINRA INC. HQ ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- You have choice here, you can bust on in and get in a bunch of battles or you can run up 59 flights of stairs without any battles. You may choose either one but put your guys in fury and save before you do. 1st plan of action - "Let's bust on in!"... Choose this way if you don't mind blasting a bunch of enemies. Charge on in and kill the guards that try to stop you. Go up to the second floor and there is a shop in the top right. You can buy items here. Now go into the elevators to the left of the shop. You will talk and then the elevator will go crazy. Just hit the button on the side to stop. You will do this four times before you reach the top. Every time you stop, you will have to go through a battle against stuff that really sucks. Eventually, you will reach floor 59. 2nd plan of action - "Let's sneak in quietly."... Choose this way if you feel you don't have time to deal with that kind of crap. Go left from the save point to an area with a door at the far end, enter. Time to climb, this may take a while. All the while climbing up, you get a bunch of talk. On the screen where Barret starts off saying, "Are we there yet," there is an elixir on the left side of the stairs a little over half way up the screen, get it and continue to the top. Here on the 59th floor are 3 inept guards, take 'em out and grab the KEYCARD 60. Go up the elevator there to floor 60. Go into the room on the left. Here you have to sneak by more inept guards. Go out the door and hide behind the first statue. When the guards move to positions 2 and 3, go to the next statue. When they move to positions 1 and 2, advance to the center blockade. Move your other party members the same way. Next move to the next statue when the guards move to positions 5 and 6. When they move to positions 4 and 5 go to the last statue. Again move your party members the same way. Then go into the next room and up to floor 61. ---------------| 1 2 3 4 5 6 | @ @ @ &&&& @ @ @ | $ | @=Statue &=Center Blockade $=Door ---------------| Here, talk to the guy walking around near the elevators and respond with "......" and he will give you KEYCARD 62. Go up to floor 62. Here you can talk with the mayor and he will give you a KEYCRAD 65 if you guess the password and an extra something if you guess it on the first try. To get the password go into one of the libraries. Read all of the titles to each book in there. One of the titles should be out of place and the rest all about the same general stuff. Read the one with the misplaced title and it has a number at the top. Take that number and then take the letter in the title that the number is. For example, if the number is 14, take the 14th letter on the title and remember it. Do this in all four libraries and put all four letters together and it will be one of the choices the mayor gives you. Choose that one and he will give you a KEYCARD 65 and elemental materia since you got it on your first try. Go up to floor 63. Go down to the room at the bottom with the computer and talk to it. Go through the three doors along the top to get into the far room. Grab the bag there and climb into the vent. Crawl over to the other room with a bag in it and grab that one. Crawl back to the room with the computer. Exchange you coupons you picked up for the items, a Star Pendent and Four Slots armor. Go up to floor 64. Here in the room all the way to the left is a save point. In the room at the top there a bunch of lockers, one has an ether in it and another has a Phoenix down in it. Go up to floor 65. Here is a bunch of boxes with midgar parts in them. You must find the box that is unlocked, grab the parts and go into the center room. Here, put the parts into the model and each time a new box will unlock. Eventually all the parts will be placed except for the one which I believe represents sector 7 but I could be wrong. Anyway, in the last box will be a KEYCARD 66. Go up to floor 66. In the upper left of the floor is a bathroom, go into the first stall. Climb up into the vent. Go to the end and listen to the conversation. After that crawl back out and follow Hojo up to the next floor. He conveniently leaves the door open for you. Go over to where he is and approach him. After some talk you will get up and see that Jenova is in the tank next to you. After some more stuff go up. There is a box with poison materia in it and a save point. Go up the elevator right there. Make a choice on who you want to fight the next boss, Barret or Tifa. Whichever one you don't pick, de-equip their materia and put it on Cloud and the other member. Go over to Hojo. After Barret blasts the chamber you get to name Red XIII. Now prepare for another crappy boss. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- BOSS: HO512 ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Once again another boss that sucks. Don't bother attacking the little midget things because they die when the boss dies. DO NOT cast poison on it because it enjoys it. It will poison you but it doesn't matter because it does minimal damage. Blast the thing with magic and limits until it dies. SPOILS: Tailisman ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Choose your party and re-equip all your materia. Grab the Enemy Skill materia and leave that screen. Go up to the upper level, grab the potions and talk to the assistant there. He will give you a KEYCARD 68. Go the way he runs and grab the stuff along the way. Go to any elevator that can take you to the 66th floor (it doesn't matter which) and then get captured by the turks. You will find yourself in a cell. Go to the door and wonder how Aeris is doing. After some talk, go to the door again and get some rest. When you wake up go out the door and check out the dead guard on the floor. Go wake up Tifa and talk to her when she gets to the guard. Go wake up Barret and Red XIII and after they get done babbling and Red going ahead, talk to Tifa and Aeris and they will join your party. Equip your materia and go over to the Jenova tank. It's busted open. Follow Red up to the next level. Follow the blood trail up to floor 69 and save. Then go up to floor 70 and find the dead president. After a bunch of talk go out the door at the top. You will get a lot of talk with Rufas and then Cloud will tell others to leave. When you regain control, remove Cloud and Tifa's materia and such and re-equip it on your members and go down into the room at bottom where you can find an elevator. Make sure all your guys are in fury and prepare for some bosses that actually pose a threat! ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- BOSS: Hundred Gunner ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- A boss that doesn't suck! Blast him with limits and magic (he's weak against lightning) and cure if you are approaching 175 HP and Aeris' limit isn't broken. Do not give him a chance to fire his sensor cannon. Just be sure not to get too low on HP and you will win. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- BOSS: Heli Gunner ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Oh fear, another boss that doesn't suck. This one may pose more of a threat than the last one. But it still has the same easy strategy. Just hit with limits and magic (lightning) and it will die. Once again, don't get too low on HP. This one may pack a bit more of a punch. SPOILS: Mythril Armlet ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Remove everyone else's stuff and equip your materia you want experience on the most onto Cloud. Using four slots right now is good because it allows for more materia to gain, make sure you are in fury. After some talk with Rufas, you will get to fight him. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- BOSS: Rufas & Dark Nation ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Of coarse he needs a lackey with him. Kick Dark Nation's punk ass as fast as you can, limits kill instantly and fire works good. Now you can concentrate on Rufas. Rufas will break your limit VERY fast so no need to worry about that. Poison him as soon as you get the chance. Just blast him with bio and your limits until he leaves, cure when below 150 HP. SPOILS: Protect Vest ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Go down to the 69th floor and save. Talk to Tifa and be prepared for one of the coolest FMVs in the game. Aeris will get off the elevator and go to the front door. Barret will run out, shoot a bit and talk. Tifa will come down, talk, and a FMV will ensue. Enter Cloud on a badass Motorcycle. This sequence is REALLY cool. After blasting out of the building you find yourself on the highway. Set your party and move EVERYONE to the back row. Put back better armor on Cloud and reset your materia. Then engage into the game. You should take minimal damage from the attackers and usually they take each other out if you take out one of 'em. At the end you will stop and get into another boss fight. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- BOSS: Motor Ball ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- This dude kinda sucks but not as much as others. CHEESE ALERT! Use the ever efficient No Back Attack bug so you don't get smacked bad. If you don't know what that is, then you didn't read the "READ THIS BEFORE YOU BEGIN" section and don't deserve to know what it is. Cast any broken limits on him and you can pummel him with magic, he's weak against lightning, one of the last bosses you fight that is weak against lightning for a long time. He has two strong attacks, rolling fire and twin burner. Both of 'em almost always break your limits. Keep busting him up and don't let your HP drop to low and you should be fine. SPOILS: Star Pendent ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- After that crappo, you will get a bunch of talk and you will climb off the highway. Leave and choose your party that will last for a long time (I usually stick with Cloud, Barret, and Aeris). On to the World Map. BTW, not a single one of your characters should ever have been killed in Midgar, if one was, you suck. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- NOTE: By the end of Midgar I have all the level 1 limits for each one of my main party's members. NOTE: I also feel the need to say that I really like FF7's world map because it's the only FF in the Playstation series that I don't need to look at the map to know where I'm going. LEVEL RANGE: 10-12 Go northeast to the town of Kalm. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- XV. KALM ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- GIL ADVISED - 3000 gil Here your party members will go over to the hotel. You on the other hand are going to buy stuff. Go to the row of three houses, the one on the left has an ether in the cupboard under the stairs. The middle house has an ether in the upstairs closet. The house on the right has a Peacemaker when you go up the left side stairs and a guard source in one of the dressers when you go up the right side stairs. The house on the far right side of the screen has an ether under the stairs. There is nothing in the bar. Up the stairs outside leads to three shops: item, materia, and weapons. Buy some more hypers if you are running low and get new weapons for you guys. There is no materia here that you should buy, Earth sucks. Go to the hotel and go up the stairs where you will be confronted by your party. Here you will get a flashback of what happened at Nibelheim 5 years before... ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- XVI. CLOUD'S PAST ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- You will find yourself in a truck with Sephiroth. You will talk a lot and then fight a dragon. It doesn't matter what you do, Sephiroth will easily destroy it. Then you find yourself in Nibelheim. After some talk, enter the town. After more talk you get control of Cloud and you may go to the houses on the right for storyline stuff and/or go into the hotel and up the stairs and then rest. When you wake up go up to the top of Nibelheim where Sephiroth awaits. After more talk you will be heading through Mt. Nibel. Go across the bridge and you will fall below. Sephiroth and company will approach and talk, it's pretty strait forward from here, go right and up. Don't worry about battles because Sephiroth ends them all in one move. In the next screen go right and up to the top. In the next screen you will find a mako fountain and get some more talk, Sephiroth will say something about Hojo that you will eventually realize why Hojo said what he did (end of disc 2). Anyway you will find yourself at the mako reactor, enter. Follow Sephiroth down to the room with the casings and Jenova written at the top. Talk and then go over and fix the valve Sephiroth is talking about by pressing 'O'. Go over to Sephiroth and talk, he will step aside from the case and you talk to him again to look inside. After more talk and Sephiroth getting really pissed, you will go back to the present. You will be able to save and then go back to the past. You will go into the Shinra Mansion. Go up the stairs and go right. Go into the room at the far right and go through the door at the top. Go all the way down to the basement and enter the through the last door. Here you will find Sephiroth and he will talk some more important storyline stuff. Talk to him and leave. After you regain control of Cloud, go back to the basement and into the laboratory. Go up to the den to find a new and evil Sephiroth. He will talk a lot more and then his music will hit which I think is pretty cool. Go back to the town and you will find that he has set it on fire. Go down and Zangen will talk to you, go into Cloud's old house. After more talking and stuff you will see Sephiroth chop some people up and get a really cool FMV. You will enter the mako reactor. Go down to the bottom level and Tifa will talk, follow her in. Sephiroth will talk, slice her and enter the room at the top. Bring Tifa over to the side and go after Sephiroth. After a lot more talk and a FMV. Your story will end. After some talk go down to the floor below and receive a PHS. Then leave Kalm. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Back to the world map, save and then equip new weapons on your party members and reset all of your materia. Go east until you reach the infamous Chocobo ranch. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- XVII. CHOCOBO RANCH ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Here talk to one of the Chocobos to receive your first summon, Choco/Mog, which is a wind based summon. You can talk to the old man in the house on the left and Chocobo Billy in the barn for some Chocobo information. DO NOT buy the Chocobo lure. It's a waste of 2000 gil. You can instead use my cheese tactics. Leave the ranch. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Before proceeding, get in a fight with a creature called a Mu. It will cast L4 suicide on you which is one of my favorite enemy skills in the game. !!WARNING!! If you don't have a brain, you may end up dead trying to follow my cheese tatics. Back on the world map go south to the swamp. SAVE! Now, there are four ways to get past the Zolom. First, you can buy the Chocobo lure and get a chocobo. That is the complete wrong choice. Second (CHEESE ALERT!), you can start across the swamp and when the Zolom is almost right on top of you, then go to the menu and save. When you reload, the Zolom will be nowhere near you and you can easily make it to the end. Third, (CHEESE ALERT!) watch the Zolom. Eventually he will pass by you going east to where there is a large space of swamp. The Zolom CANNOT track you if he is not looking at you. You can easily run all the way to the other side. Four, you can fight it. You won't win! Some people think they will just level up and whip this thing. Wrong! It will cast Beta on you and you will die. Approach the cave to the south and you will find that Sephiroth picked choice #4 to cross the marsh. Leave this screen and go into the southern cave. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- XVIII. MYTHRIL MINE ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- This place can has only 4 screens in it so do not worry about the large amount of random encounters. Go right and up to another screen when you enter. On the left side is a large wall, you can climb up one of the roots to the top to get Long Range materia. Climb back down and go right and up to get and ether and a tent. Leave this screen. Go down and at the bottom right is a box with a mind source. Go left and onto the next screen. Here you will see Rude, Elena, and Tseng. After some talk they will spill some info and leave. Go up to another screen where you will find an elixir and a hi-potion. Leave this screen and then climb up the tree root on the left and exit the mine. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Back to the world map again. Go south to Fort Condor. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- XIX. FORT CONDOR: PART 1 ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- You do not need to go here but it only takes about 5 minutes. Talk to the guy there and tell him you will assist him. Then go in and up the rope to enter the fort. Climb up the ladder here and talk to the old man sitting at the table. After some talk, tell him you will help. Go up the ladder at the top right for two shops. At the far right of the screen you can go down to a room and save and rest if you want. Leave the fort. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- On the world map again, go northwest around the water to the west, and then west to the shore. Go north until you find a hill with a city behind it, enter. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- XX. BELOW JUNON ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- LEVEL RANGE: 12-14 This place is a certified dump. Be sure to save before you proceed. Go around the house on the left and down to where you will find a little girl playing with a dolphin. After some talk you will begin a boss battle. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- BOSS: Bottomswell ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- This boss may actually do some damage to you if you are not careful, is Square starting a new trend? First, hit this thing will Choco/Mog. Then poison the piece of crap. Kill it with lots of magic and your limits. Heal if your HP drops below 200. This thing will cast a spell on some of your guys that puts them in a bubble where they can't act and there HP will steadily decrease. To get rid of the bubble, you must hit it with magic. Be sure not to hit you party member. It has Big Wave as it's final attack so be sure your health isn't too low or you will die. This should break most of your limits. SPOILS: Power Wrist ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Afterwards you will talk and then have to do CPR on Priscilla. She cannot die so have no fear (as far as I know). Just hit the CPR gauge when it is in the pink zone, not to far and not to short and she will eventually cough and the man there will take her away. Go back to the town and go to the first house on the left when you entered the town. Talk to the woman at the door and enter. She will let you rest and you will do so. After some talking and stuff exit the house and go up the stairs where your party is near and Priscilla will come out. She will talk and give you Shiva materia. After more talk with your group they will decide that you can handle everything that they are too lazy to do. Go back to the water and talk to Priscilla. After more talk you will have to jump up onto the beam high above. I don't need to tell you how to do this because it is very easy. Trial and error. When you get to the top climb up the ladder at the end. Here you will get a cutscene and see the airship Highwind which you will steal on disc two. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- XXI. JUNON: PART 1 - IN PURSUIT OF SEPHIROTH ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- GIL ADVISED - 6000 gil Go to the next screen and hit the button on the lift to go down. Enter into the door at the bottom. A Shinra officer will grab you and tell you to get ready for Rufas' parade. Doesn't that sound like fun. Go into the door on the left and grab the outfit in the second to last locker and you will put on the uniform. You will get a demonstration by the officer and two morons on how to do the march (you will meet these fools later in disc two). After that crap is done you may exit and save at the end of the hall. Now go out the door at the bottom. You will get a FMV showing you Junon and it's gigantic cannon. After some babbling, go into the ally behind the officer. Here you will get an explanation on how to do the march again. I have this mastered and it requires no skill. When the officer says "CHARGE" wait about 1 1/2 seconds and then run around the back of the group into the far slot, be sure to be even with the guy next to you. Everytime the man coordinating the group yells out another number (1... 2... 3...), hit the 'O' button. You should get up to at least 8 in the count and should settle for no less than receiving 5000 gil for your efforts. If you get anything else, reset and do it again. After it's all over, you will get some talk between Rufas and Heidegger and Rufas will leave. After some more talk you will get training on how to do another march type thing which you will use to get some good stuff later. After you're done with that, go back to the city. The first shop you come to has some materia that you want. Purchase Revive materia. The second place has good weapons that you can buy on the first floor. You may purchase whatever but DO NOT get the sword (it's a waste of money). The 3rd shop has crap and the forth shop has enemy skill materia in the basement, a mind source and luck source on the second floor, and a power source and a guard source on the third floor. Now continue until along the path in the city until you find more shops. The first shop is the Turk handout. The second shop has a save point on the first floor, a worthless materia shop on the second floor, and a worthless accessory shop on the third. The third shop has a speed source on the first floor, the second floor has nothing. The forth shop is a worthless weapons shop. Now continue down the path to the docks. Rufas will enter and you will do your new march, to do the special move at the end, you hit the 'O' button. If you don't receive the Force Stealer from Heidegger, then restart and do it over again because the Force Stealer has double materia growth on it. Now get on the boat and you will leave. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- XXII. CARGO SHIP ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- There is a box on the left with an ether. There is all materia on the ground to the right. Talk to the guard in blue wandering around the lower deck (Aeris). Then go up to the next floor. Talk to the guard on the platform on the right (Tifa). Continue on and talk to the dancing guard near the save point who is obviously Red XIII. Then go back down and talk to Aeris again. Go back up and the guard that was blocking your way to the next screen near Red is gone. In here talk to Barret until the alarm sounds. Go back to the previous screen and choose your party. Equip all your weapons, armor, and materia now and make sure your members are in fury. Now go back to the first floor and see all the dead guys. Go into the engine room. Climb the ladder on the right and go around to get a Wind Slash. Now go back down and talk to the man in red. He will die and Sephiroth will appear. After some talk you will get in a boss battle. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- BOSS: Jenova BIRTH ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- The Jenova BIRTH is not that hard. It just attacks quickly. Blast it with your limits, summons, and magic until it croaks. Be sure to keep your HP above 200 and you should have no trouble. SPOILS: White Cape ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- You will talk some and then you can grab the Ifrit materia that it dropped and leave. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- XXIII. COSTA DEL SOL ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- GIL ADVISED - 2700 gil After some talk, go up the ramp at the bottom right. You will get a cutscene with Rufas and Heidegger. The door at the end of the bridge leads to a Villa. You can head down to the basement and pick up a Fire Ring (VERY useful), a power source, and a motor drive. Now leave the Villa. Go down the stairs and into the bar. The dude at the lower left corner sells some nice armor so buy some. Outside you may buy some items but not any materia cuz it all sucks, then head down to the beach. Go talk to Hojo in the center of the area and he will babble and laugh at you for not knowing stuff that you will figure out later in the game. Now you may leave the town. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- On the world map, go southwest around the elevated land to the west. Once you clear the elevation, head North and follow the one-way path all the way to an entrance into the mountain at the end, enter. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- XXIV. MT. COREL ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Go up and talk to the guy sitting down. Continue to the next screen. Go up to the next screen here too. You will find yourself near another mako reactor (bleh). Go down the stairs and follow the tracks at the bottom to the next screen. Again follow the tracks to the next screen. You will be on a place that looks like a roller coaster and you can save. Take the high route and fall down when the track collapses. Do as it tells you to do and on one side there will be a Wizard Staff and on the other side a Star Pendent. Don't worry if you miss on one of your tries because you can fall 3 times. Back at the top, grab the W-Machine Gun out of the box and take the low route. At the next point of intersection go up and left. You can grab a Turbo Ether and Transform materia (that sucks). Go right and take the upper route. Go all the way to the end and squeeze into the little shack there. Hit the lever to lower the bridge. After exiting the shack go right and you will be able to climb the side of the hill/mountain. Here you will find some chocobo chicks. Choose to take the damn treasure and you will get in an easy battle. You will receive 10 Phoenix Downs for your efforts. Go back to the roller coaster place and take the lower route. Cross the bridge to the other side but before you continue on, take the track on the left that leads down to some rocks and water. Once on the rocks, go right and you will find a hidden area that has a tent, a mind source, and a power source. Go back to the previous screen and continue along the tracks to the next screen. You will be on a long swaying bridge. Cross it and you will enter Barret's home town. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- XXV. COREL: PART 1 - BARRET'S PAST ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Head down and Barret will go talk to the people. After lots of babbling you can buy some hypers if you are running low, and exit the town to the lower right so you can save. Before going to the Gold Saucer, read the next 2 lines... LEVEL RANGE: 16-18 MUST ACQUIRE: Bolt2, Ice2, Fire2 In doing this, you will make the next 5 hours of gameplay infinitely easier. It shouldn't take too long because you have weapons with double materia growth and you should be fairly close anyway as long as you haven't been running from any battles (I don't know why people find it necessary to run, at this point in the game I have not run from a battle yet)! Go back into Corel and go to the left to the ropeway station. After some talk, board the tram. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- XXVI. GOLD SAUCER: Part 1 - UNFINISHED BUSINESS ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- After a FMV, go to the lady at the entrance and buy a ticket to enter. After some talk inside, go to wonder square. Here you will get Cait Sith after he reads you your fortunes (pay attention to his last reading, foreshadowing? End of disc 1? Obviously). Cait Sith has Manipulate materia, and Transform materia that has 7000 AP on it and a HypnoCrown as his accessory which is very useful. He also has a silver armlet which you will want to de-equip at Corel Prison so you don't need to buy a new one, that is unless you want to use him the rest of the game which is not a wise move. Now go to battle square. After lots of talking you will be accused of murder and sent to the desert prison. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- XXVII. COREL PRISON ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- What a hole this place is! After some talking, go through the gate that Barret does. The house below the save point is where Barret is, enter. After some talking and Barret gunning down someone and more talking, you choose your party and leave the house. There is a truck at the bottom of the screen with a trailer, enter the trailer. Talk to Mr. Coates and exit. Go up to the first screen. The guy at the top gate will be dead now, go through the gate and to the next screen. On this screen you can get into battles with a few types of enemies. You should learn the two enemy skills Matra Magic, and Laser. Now go right through the gate and right to the next screen. DO NOT leave the screen in any other direction except the way you originally came or you will get lost in the desert. The same goes for the junkyard screen. Go around the cars to the path which leads to another screen. Put all your best equipment on Barret and all the materia you want to gain the most. On this screen you will meet Dyne, who is crazy. After a bunch of talking Barret will fight him. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- BOSS: Dyne ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Dyne attacks very quickly with some nice moves, however I have never died to him and you shouldn't either. Cast bio on him at the start and from then on all you should do is cure and blast him with your limits. Your limit is constantly broken in this battle so only about 35% of your turns will you not be able to cast your limit. SPOILS: Silver Armlet ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- After the battle, Dyne and Barret will talk and Dyne will eventually jump off the cliff and you will go back to Mr. Coates. After a bunch of babble you will be sent up to the gold saucer to race chocobos. In the waiting room, you will talk with Ester and she will leave. Grab the Ramuh materia near the table and wait. Ester will eventually come back in and get you ready for the race. Since I love cheats, and you should too, the race should be as easy as killing wolves near Kalm. (Cheese Alert!) For your stamina to regenerate, hold down L1, R1, L2, and R2 during the race. You will be able to go you fastest the entire race without losing any stamina and just sprint near the end to ensure victory. After lots of babble after the race you will get a buggy that can cross over rivers, re-equip your materia and continue on your way. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Go south across a river and continue south until you find a small town in a forest, enter. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- XXVIII. GONGAGA ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Make sure all your guys are in fury and prepare for a boss battle. After some talk you will fight the turks. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- BOSS: Reno and Rude ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- This is another easy battle. You can just cast your summons and limits on them. Be sure to concentrate your attack on one of them because if one is defeated, the other leaves. SPOILS: Fairy Tale ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Go right and up. Go up into the ruined reactor ahead. Go up to the center and Scarlet and Tseng will enter and talk (you will understand what they are talking about by the middle of disc 2). When they leave, go up to the lower right side of the reactor and press 'O'. Reach for the object behind the rubble and you will get Titan materia. Now leave the reactor and go back to the screen where the turks were. Go left to the next screen. On this screen, go up. You will enter the town. The first house on the left has a materia shop on the bottom where you can buy time materia. The second floor has weapons that you don't need. The hotel in the upper left has an X-Potion. The house in the upper right contains a white m-phone. The house in the middle has nothing of value. The house at the lower right is where Zack's parents live. If you have Tifa or Aeris in your party they will walk out. NOTE: You do not know who Zack is yet so don't freak out. You will however figure out who he is on disc 2, and also find how essential he is to the plot. Go retrieve Aeris and/or Tifa and leave. Back in the forest, to the left is Deathblow materia. You should also get in a battle with a frog here and receive the enemy skill, Frog Song, which is a very fun skill to have. Leave the forest. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Get back in your buggy and head west. At the west end of the continent is a river, cross it and head into the orange area where you will come to a village on the side of a mountain, enter. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- XXIX. COSMO CANYON: PART 1 - RED'S PAST ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- GIL ADVISED - 15000 Red will come running up and say that he has returned, after more talking you will be allowed to enter. The place behind the fire is a hotel and the shop up the ladder to the right of that is and item shop. Yes there is a room in the back but you can't get there yet. Go back to the main screen and go up the stairs to the left, talk to Red and enter. There is a save point here and a weapons shop. Buy up your new armor and weapons including the Silver Barret because you will need it. Don't get the Butterfly Edge because it is a waste of money. Go up the stairs and go left. Go up the next set of stairs and you will be in a room with lots of entrances and exits. The one that interests you the most is the first door on your right because you can buy HP Plus materia. Having one of these around until disc 3 is very useful. Now go back and up the ladder in the middle of the screen. Enter the shack at the top. Here you will talk with Red and Bugenhagen and be asked to go bring two other party members with you to show them a very important piece of the story. Go find one of them so you can bring whoever and go back to Bugen's house. Enter into the door at the other end. In here is Bugen's machine that displays all sorts of stuff about Planets and how they exist. After lots of talking you will go back down. Go back to the entrance screen and go the fire. Talk to all your party members but save Aeris for last. After you talk to her then talk to Red XIII. Bugen will come down and talk and you will form a party of Cloud, Red, and someone else. Go up and save. Then go to the screen with the ladder that leads to Bugen's house. !!WARNING!! You are about to enter a place that is a lake of random battles. Use caution. Talk to Bugenhagen and he will open a door and you will enter. Climb all the way down into the cave below. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- XXX. CAVE OF THE GI ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Welcome to the cave of random encounters! By the time you get out of here, you will have gained many levels. Take 5 steps in any direction at any time and you will get into a battle. Anyway, there a few holes in the rocks on this screen. 3 of them contain battles. The one that does not is the one near the top center of this area. Go in there and break open the rock and a door will open. In this cave you will have MANY opportunities to learn the Enemy Skill Death Sentence. Go through the door that was opened. At first bridge that you come to, go left towards the end. At the end in some sludge on the ground. WALK over it and go down to the next screen where you can get Added Effect materia, now go back to where the path met the first bridge and go up. Go down the stairs on the next bridge and up the right side for an ether. Go down the left side for a Black M-Phone. Now go to the upper left of the screen to the next screen. 40 random battles later, go through the 4th tunnel from the left and get in a battle with a big spider thing. These things suck, they break your limits quickly and don't damage you enough to kill you. After that, go up to the top and get an X-Potion (consider this ammunition for use later on). Go back to the set of tunnels and go into the 2nd tunnel from the left and get in a battle with another spider. After that, go down the left side into a tunnel where there is a hidden route to the box on the right which contains a Fairy Ring. Go back up towards the next screen and get in one more battle with a spider. After beating it go through another hidden passage about an inch or two to the left of you to get a Turbo Ether out of a box. Go to the top of the screen. A boss fight is coming up but I guarantee you won't need any preparation. Go up to the next screen. Here you will see a VERY funny-looking face in the wall which will growl at you and then smile! ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- BOSS: Gi Nattack ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- This is the easiest boss in the game! Remember that X-Potion you picked up, throw it at him and he will die. No questions, no excuses, he will die. Tell me that wasn't easy. SPOILS: Wizer Staff ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Before continuing, grab the Gravity materia that he dropped and go to the next screen. After a long cutscene and the shortest FMV you will ever see, you will be able to leave the canyon. Red will come back just as you are about to leave so have no fear that he is carrying some good items or materia. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Get back in the buggy and go north across another river and you will reach a town at the beginning of a mountain range, enter. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- XXXI. RETURN TO NIBELHEIM ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- LEVEL RANGE: 21-23 MUST ACQUIRE: Cure2, Blade Beam limit, one other party member's level 2 limit What?!? This place is supposed to be gone! Don't worry, Nibelheim was rebuilt by the Shinra (cover up). There are lots of black robed figures wandering around, most of them carry items. These people are attempted Sephiroth clones. The hotel on your left has a clone in the back room carrying a luck source. The second building on the left has an item shop and a clone carrying an elixir. The house at the lower right has two clones upstairs carrying another luck source. Inside Tifa's old house is a clone in the kitchen carrying a turbo ether. Upstairs in the room to the right is a clone carrying a Platinum Fist. Go back outside and save before entering the Shinra Mansion. Now go into the Shinra Mansion. NOTE: At this point in the game I have run from exactly 0 battles. There is no excuse why you should have. Now I give the first permission to run against these stupid flying pumpkin things that confuse your guys, which will cause you to kill yourself. Go through the door on your right. In the room that you can enter is a Silver M-Phone. Go back to the foyer and enter the double doors opposite the entrance. Go right into a room and up into another that contains a Twin Viper. Now go back to the foyer and up the stairs and turn right, the room at the top has a magic source. No go back to the stairs and go to the left side. In the room on the left is an Enemy Launcher. In the room at the top is a safe. Before opening it, heal up and prepare for a tough boss. The combination to opening the safe is: Right 36, Left 10, Right 59, Right 97. !!WARNING!! This is the first boss who should be able to kill some of your guys. Use caution. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Boss: Lost Number ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- This is the first excuse you have to have to use Life or a Phoenix down. Before this point, none of your characters should have died at any point. But if you do exactly as I say, this shouldn't cause you too much grief. Hit this thing with summons at the beginning after you cast Haste all of coarse. You can also cast bio on this mofo. After that, hit it with Fire2/Bolt2/Ice2 until it changes. It will change into a purple monster, or an orange monster. If it is purple, blast it dead with magic. If it is orange, use physical attacks until it dies. It will cast Bolt2, and Bio2 on your guys, so watch it. Don't let your HP get too low lest you die. This thing has a vicious attack that does about 4500 so beware. SPOILS: Cosmo Memory ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- After that crap, you can grab the key to the basement inside the safe and the Odin materia that flew out. Now go to the basement. In the screen just before the laboratory is a door. Inside is the optional character Vincent, Vincent provides for more information on the storyline. To get him, open the coffin, talk about Sephiroth, and when he closes it again ask who he is. Then go into the laboratory. Go up towards the den and you will see Sephiroth. After talking to you he will throw Destruct materia at you (which is probably one of the biggest mistakes ever considering that you will use it on him in the final battle). Anyway now go back upstairs, if you talked to Vincent he will join your party as you go back up. Leave town to the north and head into the mountain to the north. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- XXXII. MT. NIBEL ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Welcome to hell! This place also contains many annoying random battles. Go along the path until you reach a junction in which case you go up to the top of a small mountain to get the Rune Blade (double materia growth action). Now go down to the main path and head towards the bridge. Just before reaching it there is another junction that leads to the top of another mountain which has a Plus Barrette at the top. Now go cross the bridge. At this screen, go down the #4 tube which will lead you to all materia. Now save. Go out the bottom to the next screen. Jump down onto the ground below. Now go into the cave. Go up to the top, then down into the middle of the area where you can go into a tunnel which will lead you to a box with an elixir. Now go up to the next screen. Here you can pick up elemental materia and continue onward. In this screen you can pick up a Sniper CR and then continue to the lower right to the next screen. Here you must walk all the way to the mako reactor. Go around the mako reactor because there is nothing inside, and go into the door on the upper right. Go up to the tubes again and go down the #2 tube which will lead you to a Powersoul. Now jump down, save, and prepare for another tough boss fight. Go down and talk to the giant scorpion. !!WARNING!! This boss will be a wakeup call to all you fools who have been running from random battles in the past. If that describes you, be prepared to die. If that does not describe you, proceed with caution. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- BOSS: Materia Keeper ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- This is your first excuse in the game to get a "Game Over". Cast haste all on your party or big guard if you have it. The only two summons that really do much against this guy are Odin and Titan. So cast those on the boss and then beat him down with limits and physical attacks. Magic doesn't do crap against him and fire heals him so don't cast any fire based attacks. This dude has two effective ways of killing you. First it will cast Trine (another enemy skill, you MUST get this), this does about 600-650 damage to all of your party members. It will also Hell Combo one of your members which does about 750. So stay above that mark and you should be OK. This thing does Cure2 itself but 1 limit should take that away. SPOILS: Jem Ring ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Pick up the Counter materia it dropped and exit. Go around the bend to the world map. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Be glad that you are out of that hell hole. This is the point in the game where I first move Barret and anyone with long range materia to the back row. Now, go around the mountain to the west and then go northeast to Rocket Town. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- XXXIII. ROCKET TOWN: PART 1 - CID ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- GIL ADVISED - 24000 The first building on the right is an inn. This is the last inn that costs money that you should ever use. The second building on the right has a power source inside. The first building on the left is a weapons shop. Buy 2 gold armlets because you will get another from Cid. The last building on the left is an item shop before you enter, talk to the old man outside. After he's done, talk to him again and look at the rocket with him. He will give you a Yoshiyuki sword. Now enter the item shop and buy Barrier and Exit materia. Also stock up on more hypers if you are running low and buy about 5 tents. The last house on the right is Cid's house which contains a Drill Arm. Go out the back door and you will see the Tiny Bronco. After some talk with Shera, go to the rocket. Go up the stairs and up the ladder and at the top take the walkway into the rocket. Talk to the captain and name Cid. Ask him about the rocket and then go back to his house. After lots of talking and a cutscene, Palmer will enter and babble. Cid will leave. Go outside where you see Cid talking to Rufas. Shera will bring you back in and tell you that Palmer is going to take the Tiny Bronco. Prepare for an easy boss fight. Go out the back and talk to Palmer. He will freak out and fight you. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- BOSS: Palmer ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Palmer starts the battle by turning around and slapping his ass in your direction! Make him feel more happy by sticking him with Odin. Then hit him with Bio2 which will also kick his ass. Don't worry about him killing you, his mako gun isn't that powerful. Use trine on him for some more fun. After you beat him he will try to run away only to be hit by a truck! SPOILS: Edincoat ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- You will jump on the Tiny Bronco and fly away picking Cid up along the way. The tail will be hit and you will crash into the sea. After some talking, Cid will join your party and you will acquire the Tiny Bronco. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- At this point you may land on the western continent and walk all the way to Wutai on the northern side, where you can buy some good stuff, getting in many random battles along the way. Or you can wait until disc 2. Take the plane back to the center continent and go through the middle of it by way of river (it runs right through the middle). At the end of a river your will see a small house on the south side, enter. All you need to do is talk to the guy inside and get any info you want and then leave. Now you have to go to the Gold Saucer so land and walk to Corel and hop on the tram to the Gold Saucer. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- XXXIV. GOLD SAUCER: PART 2 - THE KEYSTONE ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- When you arrive go inside and go to battle square. Go up into the stadium. Go to the right and up a few steps to Dio's museum. You will find the Keystone on the display table. Dio will enter and ask you to fight in the battle arena before he will let you have it. Don't worry, you don't lose any HP or MP. Tell him you will and fight. It doesn't matter how many battles you win or lose but you do get items if you win more. Dio will then give you the Keystone. Go back to the tram and find that it is out of order. You will stay at the hotel for the night. After lots of talking about what has happened so far you will go to your room. A knock will come to your door and it will either be Tifa, Yuffie (in rare cases), or Aeris. You will then go on a date with that person. You will play the lead roles in a play and you have different options of what to do, all of which make for a good laugh. Then you will ride then Golanda. After much talking and a FMV, you will go back to the lobby. You will see Cait Sith and find that he has stolen the Keystone. You will chase after him through a few different areas eventually ending up at Chocobo square. He will run around the betting table and back outside where Tseng will appear on a helicopter. Cait Sith will toss him the Keystone and Tseng will fly away. After much babble you will be back in your room. The weird machine thing on your right has an elixir inside. Go down to the hotel lobby and you will talk. Aeris and one other person will join your party for your trip to the Temple of the Ancients. Leave the Gold Saucer and go back to the Tiny Bronco. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Before you proceed go to the area east of Junon. There you will find large owl type creatures named Zemzeletts which you can manipulate to cast White Wind. White Wind is one of the most important enemy skills in the game because it cures abnormal status effects. The enemy skill Big Guard can be found on by manipulating a Beach Plug on the beach near Costa Del Sol. Big Guard will make your journey through the rest of the game a joke. Everything you fight becomes 10 times easier. You may also get the enemy skill Beta from the Midgar Zolom if you have the guts to face it. You don't need to manipulate it to have it cast on you and blow you away. The Magic Hammer enemy skill can be found by having it cast on you by a Razor Weed which you can find on the western continent. You will most likely use these skills inside the Temple because they make your trip much more easier, and lot less painful. Make sure you have L4 suicide on both of your enemy skill materias as well. The temple is on an island south of Fort Condor. It's hard to miss. !!WARNING!! The place you are about to enter is a VERY evil place. You may become suicidal trying to make your way through here. It took me about 3 hours to naviagate myself through here the first time I played this game. Then another 3 to figure out how to beat the demon wall. Save in an empty slot now! ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- XXXV. TEMPLE OF THE ANCIENTS ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Welcome to the Temple of Torture! This place is perhaps the most dreaded place in all of FF7. You will run up to the temple entrance and find a clone. After that you will talk with Tseng and enter the temple. Whoa, where are we. That's right, the FF7 developers felt it necessary to throw you into another giant maze! After lots of talking about how outrageous this is, go up and around the left and down a flight of stairs. Go through the passage here and climb down the mesh. Go under the stairs to the box which holds a Trident. Now go right down some more stairs and up more mesh. Now go left and up even more stairs and even more mesh. Grab the luck source and then go down the stairs into the room where the old guy awaits. Grab the silver rifle out of the box and then talk to the old guy. You can save and I recommend saving in a different slot so you can get out of here if need be. Leave the room and go down to the bottom of the last mesh thing that you went up. Go through the passage to the south and down 2 flights of stairs after grabbing the turbo ether. Go around the pillar at the bottom and down some mesh and grab a Rocket Punch out of the box. Continue to where that dude ahead starts but don't follow him. Instead, go up through a passage and right down some stairs and up more mesh for luck plus materia. Now go back to where the old guy was and go left into the place where he went. To get by this area, all you need is a brain. It is quite self-explanatory, the rocks stop coming once you reach the end. There, you will go back to the middle for a massive cutscene with Sephiroth and Tseng. Grab the morph materia and head to the end where the old man awaits. You may save and continue onward. Here you will find yourself on a clock. Here is where each place leads... 1 - A battle with stuff that sucks 2 - nothing 3 - A battle with stuff that will die instantly to poison (use Deadly Waste) 4 - Princess Guard 5 - Ribbon (VERY IMPORTANT!!!) 6 - Go here last 7 - Trumpet Shell 8 - Megalixir 9 - nothing 10 - Place where you entered (duh) 11 - nothing 12 - nothing... yet Below - If you get knocked off by the second hand then you will get in a battle and receive a Nail Bat. You will have to walk all the way back so I suggest avoiding the stupid second hand. When you enter six, you will find another old guy and you will have to catch him. Go into the door on the second level and 3rd from the left to get him. The box below has a Work Glove. Go into the lower right door to get back to the top after saving. !!WARNING!! Beware that once entering this next area, you will not be able to gain any levels before fighting the hardest boss you will face, except against the tough boss that you fight right before it. Keep a free save slot. Go into the door and you will find yourself in the room with the murals. Just keep going right and talking with Sephiroth until you reach the end. Eventually you will get into a boss battle. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- BOSS: Red Dragon ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Fear this! The dragon is actually somewhat difficult. He may kill some of your guys. First thing, don't use fire unless you enjoy healing enemies. Better to use Trine instead. Use Odin on him and it will knock him good. Use Big Guard as well. Use your limits when you get them. The problem with the dragon is that he bites your guys for serious damage. It is a real pain in the ass. He has very strong attacks. You may want to consider equipping a fire ring because he likes fire magic. You will have trouble against this guy, guaranteed. Just keep your health and barriers up and you should be OK. SPOILS: Dragon Armlet ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- After this battle you can pick up the first truly useful summon in the game, Bahamut. Then go right to the alter. You will talk some and then select to shake the model. After some more talk you will be allowed to leave. Rest and save in your third slot because a VERY difficult boss battle is coming up. Also, DO NOT equip Aeris with any armor that you cannot buy (I prefer a gold armlet). After saving go right back to the clock and go across to 12. Go up to the door and you will knock. A huge boss will emerge from the wall in attempt to have you stuck forever in the Temple of Torture if you didn't use different save slots. LEVEL RANGE: 29-32 ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- BOSS: Demon Wall ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Besides Emerald and Ruby Weapon, this is unquestionably the most difficult boss in the game. This is the first time where you can get a game over and still hold your dignity. The Demon Wall in my opinion is very overpowered for this stage in the game. I could beat some Disc 2 bosses at this point that are easier than the Demon Wall. You can however beat it on your first try if you don't screw up. First off, magic doesn't do crap to this guy. Summons don't do crap to this guy. The only summon that really does anything is Bahamut and it does a REAL lot! The rest are useless. When the battle begins, immediately cast Big Guard or you will die fast. Then blast him with Bahamut which will do about 2300 damage. Sounds easy so far right? Wrong. He may only have 8000 HP, but Bahamut is very overpowered and magic and physical attacks really don't do much of anything. The only way to beat him from this point on is to make sure that you DO NOT die. Concentrate entirely on your health. Only attack when your limit is broken. The more you heal, the greater chance that you will win. He has many attacks which includes dropping in a rock which 95% of the time will kill one of your party members instantly if you do not have a barrier. He also drops in icicles which slice up your whole party. He also rams all your guys for some big damage and may petrify one of your party members. To win, try to have a barrier on every party member at all times. The trouble with that is he will kill your guys and their barrier will disappear. If your guys are in haste, the battle also becomes easier. Just don't die in this battle and your limits will win the battle for you. SPOILS: Gigas Armlet ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- After the battle, Cait Sith will enter and talk some crap. You will get lots of talking and a cutscene for about the next 5 minutes. When you are done, you will find yourself in the Gongaga Inn. Leave the town. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Go south and enter the Tiny Bronco and make your way up to the northern continent beach. Land, save, and enter into the town to the north. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- XXXVI. BONE VILLAGE ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- GIL ADVISED: 10000 MUST ACQUIRE: Water Ring You need some more hypers right? Yes you do, buy a large amount (15) from the guy at the entrance to the building. Now you want a Lunar Harp. Tell the guy you want to dig for it. You will be able to place guys all over to search for the Lunar Harp. It is usually on the top level. Once you acquire it, go to the top and out the back. Go to the next screen. The sleeping forest will now awake. Along the left side in the trees, a piece of summon materia will appear and disappear after some time. When it appears, grab it and you will receive Kjata materia. Now continue to the next screen. Go under the log here and open the box for a water ring which will save you from much grief in about 10 minutes. Go through the log and onto the next screen, keep on going until the end. Then enter the final destination on disc 1, the Forgotton Capitol. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- XXXVII. CITY OF THE ANCIENTS: PART 1 - FINDING AERIS ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Go left and then all the way to the end of the road into the next screen. Go down the stairs here and on the other side is a box with an aurora armlet. Now go back to the path into the building on the left. In here is a save point and a magic source. Now go back to the entrance screen. Go right. The first hut has a guard source inside. The second hut has an elixir and a some beds on the second floor, rest. You will awake during the night and go find Aeris. Go to the entrance screen. Now go down the center path to the next screen. Continue on to the next screen. Enter the building at the end. At the end of the ramp you will find the ever so dangerous Comet materia. Now go down the blue stairs in the middle. Go all the way down to the city below. At the bottom is the last save point on Disc 1. Put the water ring on someone. Now go to the little platforms and jump across. Once to the other side, approach Aeris. Just keeping hitting 'O' near her until your party members yell at you. You will get a FMV and then lots of talking before a boss battle. !!WARNING!! If you didn't equip the water ring, hit the reset button or watch your guys die faster than they ever have before. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- BOSS: Jenova LIFE ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Have no fear when Jenova casts Aqualung on your party killing two of your guys. This is a very easy battle. You will have one party member remaining. This person is invincible. There is nothing Jenova can do to kill that person. Cast haste on Jenova. This will make her run out of MP faster. Eventually the dumb bitch will not be able to do anything because all she can do is magic. Revive the rest of your party. The next part is real hard. Mash the attack button until the battle is over. SPOILS: Wizard Bracelet ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- After a long sequence, a FMV, and more talking the disc will end and you can save. ******************************************************************************* DISC 2 ******************************************************************************* ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- I. LEAVING THE FORGOTTEN CITY ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Go to the second hut and rest. Now go out the way that Sephiroth left. Go around the big structure and pick up a Viper Halbard from the box. Now go back to the front of the structure and jump up the pointy things. Go around and up a few time until you reach the top. Then go around the outside and then left into a cave. There are a few boxes in this area. Maneveur your way through and pick up a Bolt Armlet, a HypnoCrown (very handy), and a megalixir. At the bottom of the ladder on the left is magic plus materia. Climb up the ladder and go through the passage on the right. Grab the power source in the box and exit. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Go southwest around the mountain and then west to the far end of the continent. Then head northeast to the town of Icicle. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- II. ICICLE ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- GIL ADVISED: 34000 The building on the left is a weapons shop, enter. Buy any weapons except the Mast Ax and be sure to pick up Tifa's weapon even if she is not in your party. The house behind the weapons shop is Gast's old house. Downstairs is a turbo ether. You can watch a bunch of tapes regarding the past but it does not effect the game. Enter into the house on the far right. In the little room at the top you will find a Vaccine and a Hero Drink (save it for duplication!!!). There is also a map on the wall outside the room. Take it and leave. Go to the inn at the top and grab the X-Potion out of the upstairs window. Go to the man at the back of the town and talk to him and tell him that you are still going. Elena and some Shinra troops will show up. Elena will talk and attempts to hit you but you can just hit the left button and she will roll down the hill. Go into the house at the center of town. Talk to the kid in the back. Take his snowboard and leave through the back of the town. !!WARNING!! The following areas are real testers. They test your sanity fairly well. You may find yourself running around in circles in the next few areas. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- III. SNOWBOARDING & THE BASE OF GAEA'S CLIFF ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- The guy at the back will tell you how to control yourself. The path you should take is right and then left. You will land next to a tree which is on your map. Go right until you reach a mountain pass which is also on the map. Take the top right route. You will eventually reach a hot spring. Go down to the right and select to touch it. Now go up and continue until you reach a VERY wide open snow field (dubbed the snowy expanse). You can place markers so you won't get lost. Go up for about 15 seconds and then make a 90 degree turn right and go that way. You will reach an area with a cave there, enter. Talk to the person inside and you will get in an easy battle. Just cast Beta on the dumb bitch and if she is still alive the cast Fire2 or Flame Thrower. She will die and leave behind Alexander materia. Now leave and get back to the snowy expanse. Go up until you reach a small house. You may pass out along the way which will get you here anyway. Talk to the guy inside and after lots of babbling leave. You party members will be here and you will eventually be able to leave going north. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- IV. CHALLENGING THE CLIFF ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- MUST ACQUIRE: Magic Breath Climb up into the cave above you. Go into the passage at the end. Go left into another passage. Go down and then right through the wall at the right into a hidden room with a ribbon (many people miss this). Now go up and get a Javelin out of a box. This is one of the only weapons with double materia growth and combined slots. Use it to your advantage (Restore-All). Now go into the passage to the left. Go all the way up and kick the rock at the top. Now go back to the room before you got the ribbon and go up the way that was blocked before and leave the cave. Go up and you will have to choose your path twice. Do up the first time and right the second. Enter the cave at the top. There is a save point near the top left in here. Also in this room you can battle Stilvas which look like smaller, different colored materia keepers. These bad boys cast the EXTREMELY overpowered enemy skill, Magic Breath. You MUST acquire it for future use. Now go through the passage on the right. On this screen you can battle Malboros which cast Bad Breath on you, the ULTIMATE status ailment enemy skill. Go around the right. Open the box here for a Fire Armlet. Go left getting in four battles along the way. Each battle has 3 bats and an icicle. Just cast Beta and fire magic on the icicle and you will win. The box on the left contains an elixir. Now jump to the room below. Go up to the top left and grab a speed source out of the box, save, and go through the center passage. Grab the over-hyped Enhance Sword out of the box (do not use the enhance sword, I don't care how many materia slots it has, it's attack power blows). Go around the left. Climbing again, choose up and up this time and enter the final cave. MUST ACQUIRE: Level 2 Elemental Materia, Regen, Fire3, Ice3, Bolt3 LEVEL RANGE: 37-40 Now on one of your party members should be an Aurora Armlet and a Fire Ring. On another one of your party members should be a Fire Armlet and Ice-Elemental materia on their armor. This way 2 of your guys will be virtually invincible for the next battle. Use a tent and save. Go to the passage in the right and go down to where the clone flies out, boss battle! ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- BOSS: Schizo ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- This guy is another one of those bosses that if you do the right thing, you could win with your eyes closed. Schizo has 2 heads, the red one casts ice magic and the brown one casts fire magic. Yes they will heal you guys sometimes due to your armor. Hit them with Alexander and Bahamut for some serious damage. Also cast Trine and magic of the opposite element on each head. Concentrate your attacks on one at a time. They will cast an Earth spell on you but it doesn't do much. When each one dies it will cast a big lightning attack on you that does moderate damage. To beat this thing, use Haste-All and Regan-All. Doing this will make your HP soar very quickly. I also recommend casting MBarrier on the member that is not invincible so that person won't die. Or to fix all of this, just use big guard. That's all there is to it, this boss sucks like so many others. SPOILS: Dragon Fang ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Now head out the bottom. Climb up the side of the cliff here to the top and you will get a stunning FMV. Go down the side and onto the next screen. Choose right now which character you prefer to go along with you and de-equip the armor of the other one. As you go forward Tifa will join your party, that is why you should have bought her weapon in Icicle. Continue on. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- V. WHIRLWIND MAZE ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- In this section you will see many clones diving off the edge, do not be alarmed. Go down and grab the Neo-Bahamut materia there. Jump across the ridge to the save point. Go up and you will see the Highwind and get a cutscene with Rufas and company. Go left to the next screen. Some clones approach a windy area and get knocked back. One has a hi-potion the other has an ether. Cross over the crack when the wind dies down to almost a stop. On the next screen go all the way up and grab the Kaiser Knuckle on the way. Here, when the wind dies down and the waves slow down go in between them to get across. Before continuing onward, equip someone with the fire armlet. Equip another person with the fire ring. Equip the last person with fire materia linked to L2 elemental materia. Your party is now invincible. Now time to meet Sephiroth again. He will babble about some mindless crap and put you into another boss battle. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- BOSS: Jenova DEATH ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- You are invincible, you cannot die, all the boss casts on you is fire stuff. Cast haste so you don't have to wait as long. Mash the attack button until the stupid bitch dies. SPOILS: Reflect Ring ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Now you get the black materia back. Give it to Red XIII or Barret and after some talk, continue on. Pick up the ever dangerous MP Turbo materia and save. Pick up the poison ring and continue. Watch this next crosswind for a while. Notice that eventually it dies down almost completely, that's when you must cross. Before reaching the end, de-equip Cloud of all his crappo. Now continue into Sephiroth's illusion. After lots of talking, talk to Tifa. After more talk, speak with Sephiroth. Speak with Tifa a few times and you will get a cutscene. After lots of stuff happening, talk to the person that you gave the black materia to and then Cloud will fly up to the top of the room and give the black materia to Sephiroth. After lots of babble and Hojo acting like an idiot, you will get an amazing FMV and wake up in Junon. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- VI. JUNON: PART 2 - ESCAPE FROM JUNON ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- After lots of talking go over to Barret and he will show you that Meteor has been summoned. Heidegger will come in and haul you away. Just follow the Guard all the way down and save along the way. At the bottom, Scarlet will throw Tifa in the execution chamber, the alarm will sound because Weapon is attacking and Cait Sith will gas Scarlet and you will fight two guards. After that go down and pull on the chamber door a few times. A FMV will ensue. Now leave with Cait Sith and go right. Go down and if you have obtained Yuffie she will join your party, continue onward. Go up the lift and right towards the Highwind. Barret will yell at Cait Sith and then you will control Tifa. Hit 'X' to grab the key. Hit 'X' and the head button to grab the key into your teeth. Hit the head button and 'O' to unlock the right hand. Hit the head button and 'O' again to unlock the other hand. Go to the left and shut off the gas. A FMV of Weapon attacking will ensue and he will conveniently blast a hole in the chamber and then get blasted by the cannon. Climb out of the hole and proceed down the side. Run all the way to the end of the cannon. Scarlet will say some crap and slap you. Mash the 'O' to bitch-slap her down. After that crap, you will jump onto the Highwind and escape. After some talk go inside and proceed to the cockpit. Go talk with Red when you can and then talk to the pilot. Go to the operations room and select your party. Go back to the pilot and proceed. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Now you finally have an efficient means of transportation ('bout time). Go to the Chocobo ranch. You can pick up a chocobo lure to the right of the entrance, then go into the barn. Talk to Chocobo Billy and buy one mimmet green. Talk to Chloe as well. Now go to a long island in the southeast and you will find a small village there, save and enter. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- VII. MIDEEL: PART 1 - FINDING CLOUD ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- GIL ADVISED: 60000 gil The first store on the right is an item shop so stock up on lots of hypers. There is a small white chocobo here. Talk to it and give it the green. Tickle it behind the ears and you will recieve the all-mighty contain materia. Now go up the stairs and into the first store there. Buy all the weapons that you need, you won't need new armor, and go knock on the door at the back, now exit. Go across the ramp towards the other store. Go right before entering and then left towards the back of the store. You will hear a 'click' as you walk buy the corner. Go to that 'click' and hit 'O' to get a key. Go back to the weapons shop and attempts to use the key on the door. It will break and tell the truth to the manager and recieve the curse ring. Now go to the back of the town and get lots of talking and you will discover Cloud. After more talking you will find yourself back on the Highwind. Cid will be elected the new leader, go and form your party (I prefer Cid, Barret, and Red) and then take off. Land back in Mideel and go to the house before the clinic to grab an elixir, tell the man that you took it and leave. Now fly over to Fort Condor. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- VIII. FORT CONDOR: PART 2 - HUGE MATERIA ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Go up into the fort and talk tot the old man at the table. Now go up the stairs on the left and talk to the guy on the next screen. Don't waste your money, just start the game. Hit R1 twice to speed it up. DO NOT waste your money on defense. Eventually a guy will reach you and you will get to fight him. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- BOSS: CMD. Grand Horn ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- This guy blows. Cast haste and regen all. Comet does about 3000 damage. Just hit him with high power magic until he croaks, no problem in this battle. SPOILS: Imperial Guard!!! (Kickass armor) ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- After some more talk go back outside. Grab the Phoenix materia and watch the Condor fly away. Go back inside and talk to the old man. He will give you the huge materia, now leave and go to Corel. !!WARNING!! Do save in a seperate slot before entering, you wouldn't want to pass up your opportunity to get Bahamut ZERO now would you? ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- IX. COREL: PART 2 - HUGE MATERIA ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- LEVEL RANGE: 34-41 Go up to the tracks and make your way to the Corel mako reactor. Fight the two guards at the entrance, after that a train will come out and you will follow it on another train. After instructions on how to drive, hit 'up' and 'triangle' alternatly as fast as you can until you catch the train. You will then jump on to the train where each car you reach has another battle... 1: Gas Ducter - Hit with Comet and attack it, it will die 2: 2x Gas Ducter - Summon Odin 3: Wolfmeister - Hit with limits and high powered magic 4: Eagle Gun - Hit with Bolt3, Trine, and your limits You will then jump up to the engine car and kill a guard. You will jump and try to stop the train. Hit 'down' and 'X' or 'up' and 'triangle' until something happens. Repeat this process until you stop. If you cannot stop it before it reaches Corel, restart. You will get off the train and the people will thank you by giving you a free stay at the inn and Ultima materia. Now back to Mideel. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- X. MIDEEL: PART 2 - LIFESTREAM ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- GIL ADVISED: 23000 Buy some more hypers, a crystal sword, and a crystal bangle. Now go talk to Tifa. After lots of talking you will run outside only to find that you have to fight weapon (sucks huh?). ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- BOSS: Ultimate Weapon ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Don't fear this guy too much now. Cast Big Guard and regen fast. To beat this guy just hit him with some powerful summons and your limits. You shouldn't really have to worry about health because it regenerates so fast. Just keep your health above 1500 by the end of the battle and make sure you have an MBarrier on all your guys because his final attack is Ultima Beam which kicks your ass. SPOILS: Bragging Rights (nothing) ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Cid and everyone will run out of there and Tifa and Cloud will fall into the lifestream. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- XI. LIFESTREAM: CLOUD'S SUBCONCIOUSNESS ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- There is a lot of talking and lots of cutscenes in here but you don't really have to do that much. Go up first to Nibelheim 5 years ago. Next, go left to Nibelheim 7 years ago. Then, go right to Nibelheim 13 years ago. Finally, go back up to Nibelheim 5 years ago and you will go to the mako reactor. Here you will witness an amazing truth from the past and you will say out loud "Ohhhhhhhh," because everything will finally make sense. After lots more talking you will get out of the lifestream and Barret will talk with Tifa. After that, Cloud will make a speech on the Highwind, you will form your party, and leave for Junon. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- XII. JUNON: PART 3 - HUGE MATERIA ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Go over to the Shinra soldier near the elevator and pay him 10 gil to go up. Go out to the main street and two screens later you will be in a grey street area with a Shinra whistle sound. Go down and a bunch of soldiers will run away. Go down the elevator at the end. Inside you will fight 2 guards. When you reach bottom you will fight 2 more guards. Continue down the passages until you reach a save point, save and continue. Go down this elevator to a corridor which leads to an underwater tunnel. Go all the way to the end and down yet another elevator. Go across the long bridge here to the next screen. Save on this screen and continue. You will fight multiple guards and eventually reach the sub pen. You will see the huge materia being taken out of the reactor and loaded into a submarine. Here you will be behind Reno. Talk to him and get in a boss battle. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- BOSS: Carry Armor & 2 Arms ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- This boss is made up of three parts, a body and two arms. This thing is robotic and weak against lightning. Cast big guard and regen so you don't get pummeled. Take out this things arms first because it can pick you up and kick your ass if you don't. Trine and Bolt3 work very well against this mofo. For your own sake, keep all your guys in haste, regen, and have them with at least 1/2 their max HP and both MBarrier and Barrier on them. Obviously use your limits when you get them. I normally beat this thing without summons because it will pick your guys up throwing off your timing. Just stay alive and you will win. SPOILS: God's Hand ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- To the left is a Battle Trumpet in a box. Head towards the sub in the back. Here to the left are two boxes, one contains a Scimitar (triple materia growth!) and the other one has Leviathan Scales. Go up and fight all the guards and enter the sub. Kill some more guards and save. Go to the bridge and you will find some familiar faces. You can kill them or take them hostage, it doesn't matter, take the seat and get ready to kick some ass. You will be in the sub and you will have to take out the red shinra sub. Just follow after the red sub and mash the torpedo button until you complete the mission. Go up and land at the dock and go up to the Junon airport and watch the Gelnika fly away. Go back to you sub and go underwater. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- XIII. UNDERWATER ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- NOTE: DO NOT approach Emerald Weapon because you will fight him and die. The sunken Shinra sub is next to the ocean wall just west of the Temple of the Ancients island. Approach it and you will obtain the huge materia. Now go north an area directly noth of Costa Del Sol and just off the southwest side of the northern continent. There is a hidden place through a tunnel here where you will find the 'Key to the Ancients'. You will need this soon. Now go over to the Gold Saucer dock and save. Now go back under and in the corner you will see the Gelnika, approach it and you will enter. !!WARNING!! The Gelnika is a morgue. Be prepared for fierce competition down here. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- XIV. GELNIKA ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- NOTE: There are a few different enemies down here all of which can easily kill you. I give you permission to run if it seems you will die. This is the only place during this entire walkthrough where I got a game over. It should be noted that the enemies 'Unknown 3' and 'Serpent' are vunerable to L4 suicide. Go down the ladder to the floor. Go left to a box which contains Heaven's Cloud. Now save and enter the door to your left. Here you will find Reno & Rude, and you will fight them. Be sure to equip steal before you battle. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- BOSS: RENO & RUDE ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Steal from them and you will recieve a Ziedrich from Rude, and a Touph Ring (Spirit & Vitality +50!) from Reno. As usual, use Big Guard and regen and then blast them with your limits and high powered magic. They do not pose a real threat to you so they should be easy. SPOILS: Elixir ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Go into the door at the end. The box here contains a Megalixir. If you follow the walkway to the very end you will find another box with a Spirit Lance. On the bottom there are two boxes containing an Outsider and Cid's level 4 limit, Highwind. Under the ruined chopper is Hades materia (very fun). Now go back to the screen with the save point and save. Enter the door to the north. If you go across the way and right there is a box with a Megalixir. Go back and down the stairs to the right picking up an Escort Guard from a box along the way. There is a hidden box in the top left containing Yuffie's best weapon, the Conformer. Hidden in the top right is double-cut materia. Now get out of this hell hole, go back to the Highwind and save. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- XV. ROCKET TOWN: PART 2 - JOURNEY TO SPACE ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Go the rocket and fight the lame-ass guards. After three battles, climb up the ladder to the top where you will fight another boss. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- BOSS: Rude ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Rude has two guards with him both of which you need not worry about. Just hit him with your limits and high powered magic, he will die VERY fast. SPOILS: Nothing ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Go into the rocket and fight one more guard. Go into the cockpit. After a lot of talking and a FMV of the rocket launching you will go right into a small room and up a ladder to the huge materia. Go up to the container and you will have to enter a combination to get the materia out. The combo is: Circle, Square, Cross, Cross. You will get the huge materia and head back down. Go out of the cockpit and down another ladder to the room below. As you walk by the oxygen tanks, one will explode and trap Cid underneath some debris. Shera will come out and help and lead you into the escape pod. You will get some talking and another FMV of the rocket hitting Meteor but obviously not destroying it. Back on the Highwind you will talk and decide to go get Bugenhagen to find out how Aeris tried to save the planet. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- XVI. COSMO CANYON: PART 2 - RETRIEVING BUGEN ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Go to the item shop in the top right and go around the desk to the right to the room in the back. Pick up the FullCure materia and the elixir and magic source. Now go up to Bugen's laboratory. After a lot of talking you will go up into the observatory and the 4 huge materias will be placed up there. Approach the blue one and say 'Get closer', you will get in my opinion the coolest looking summon in the game, Bahamut ZERO. Now go back to the Highwind and go to the Bone Village and go to the City of the Ancients. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- XVII. CITY OF THE ANCIENTS: PART 2 - AERIS' WISH ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- MUST ACQUIRE: Key to the Ancients (should've already found it) Take the left path and go all the way to the end. Go around the right side and down the stairs to the center platform. Bugen will place the key in the music box and you will find out a bunch of stuff on how Aeris was intending to save the planet. You will find that the Junon cannon was moved to Midgar in an attempt to blast the nothern barrier with mako powered shells. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- MUST ACQUIRE: Cure3, Ultima L2 LEVEL RANGE: 43-46 Go back to the highwind and Weapon will rise out of the water and approach Midgar. Wait until Weapon finally lands and stops. Then you land, save and approach the monster. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- BOSS: Diamond Weapon ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Cast big guard and regen to start off. Then hit him with your biggest and baddest summons, but not Phoenix. He will begin a countdown. When he is about to reach 0, make sure you cast big guard again. He will reach 0 and cast Diamond Flash which really kicks your ass. Heal up and kill him with your limits. If you die, then cast Pheonix because it will bring your dead characters back to full HP. SPOILS: Nothing ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- After the battle you will run back to the Highwind and get a FMV of the Sister Ray firing and destroying the protective barrier around the north crater, weapon will also fire some crap at Midgar and kill Rufas. Fly to the northern crater and you will talk some and then find that Hojo is going insane and is going to try to help Sephiroth. Save and then fly back over Midgar where you will parachute into Sector 8. !!WARNING!! You are about to re-enter Midgar. Realize what you are doing. Remember how much of dump Midgar is? Now, it is worse... ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- XVIII. RETURN TO MIDGAR ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Follow Cait Sith until you reach the hatch to the underground. Go down the ladder. Go down the ramp to the right whcih will lead to boxes containing an elixir, and a megalixir. Go back to the beginning and go down the stair
