The first inception of the site launched in November of 1997 as Final Fantasy VII Online,
an AOL hosted portal to Final Fantasy VII. Although the overall framework and design pales in comparison to the current site, its content and material covered the game in great detail. Final Fantasy VII Online covered nearly every aspect of the game, from characters to equipment, world locations to intense media coverage, including a complete
bestiary which many sites at the time did not offer.
