Back on topic: Man of the Sea, if you're downloading this many games on VC, I really recommend getting a a classic controller. It plugs into the Wiimote in place of the nun chuck, and costs around $20 or so.

I've got a CC Pro, but I had lent it to my brother for Xenoblade.  I'll pick it back up this weekend, since I'm gonna do a run through of A Link to the Past after this.

I didn't play the 2nd quest in the original Zelda; I wanted to jump right into Zelda II, and will save any 2nd quests/new game +'s for another day.

Finished the 5th dungeon last night.  Fuck those stupid floating dragon heads that like to fly into me as I'm jumping over a lava pit!  I'm almost completely leveled up though -- both Life and Magic are level 8, which is quite a feat, considering how many times I've seen the Game Over screen.

I'm almost there, you guys!

During the power outage last week I was rumaging around my basement looking for flashlights and radios when I stumbled upon my old stash of game consoles. I saw the golden cartridge and wanted to play it so badly right then and there. When electricity came back on a few days ago I hooked up NES and started playing throuhg the first one. I'm almost done with it and I eagerly await the challenge of number 2. Nostalgia is running wild in my house.

I"m gonna go back and play through Zelda 2 as well. I never gave it a full chance, but I actually thought it was pretty fun. Thanks for the reminder/motivation dude.

Crono can cross dimensions too!

I remember one of the most frustrating parts of the game (besides Death Mountain) is the next to last boss.  You know the one, you have to use some kind of magic on it first just to hit him.  Then he throws a ton of red balls in the air that you can just barely avoid to hit him.

Currently Playing: Dark Cloud 2: 3 hours.
Also Playing: CT, FF VI, Solatorobo, Secret of Mana, Halo 4.
Just Finished: Fable II: 7 hours.

Kickin' it old school

^ I actually remember both bosses, even though I was about 6 or 7 at the time.  2nd to last took me about 9 tries, and the last took me 3 tries.  T_T

I remember liking the game back in the day, but never beat it.  Can't remember if a friend owned it, or if we just rented it a bunch of times.  I do have it on that Gamecube compilation disk, but haven't gone back to play it.  I'll have to some day, but it's hard to motivate myself to use anything other than my PS3.

I think it's a great game and I've replayed it many times throughout the years. I wouldn't put in in the highest tier of Zelda games (LttP, OoT, TP), but it's definitely not a black sheep or anything of the sort. I really enjoy the "fencing", especially with Iron Knuckles.

As solid as this game is, I would rank Zelda II second-to-last in the series, ahead of only Phantom Hourglass. The CD-I games never happened.

Finished it last night.  That last section of overworld in those lava trenches, before you get to the Great Palace?  Yeah, that was a lot of fun to play through, over and over.  And over again.  The Great Palace itself wasn't as bad as I was afraid it was gonna be, except for HOLY SHIT EAGLE KNIGHTS THROWING KNIVES AND JUMPING AT ME OH GOD LEAVE ME ALONE!!!

The Thunderbird was pretty tricky, until I figured out that Reflect renders his fireballs completely useless, and I'll admit that I cheaped out and stabbed Dark Link from the corner of the room -- I was on my last life and didn't feel like fighting through the whole dungeon again.

Overall, I enjoyed this game a lot more than I thought I would.  I'd tried getting into it a few times, with no real success because I didn't want to put up with the steep difficulty.  But the game is definitely worth a second look for anyone interested in an entirely different kind of Zelda game.  It gets pretty cheap at times, and requires more than a little patience, but you feel like such a BOSS when you finally get the Triforce of Courage.  Better than the original, I'd say.

I did a save state right before dark Link.  I swear to all that is holy he is impossible without kneeling in the corner.  People can claim he can be beaten otherwise but I refuse to believe.

This reminds me, I've got a 3/4 done play of the original Zelda on my PSP.  I should finish that next week.  I still love the original.

It's very easy to do homebrew on PSP and that includes emulators.
