"Dangerous" dog put to death

My family had a German shepard, which are large and intimidating (though less so than a Doberman or pit bull, I'd wager), some police departments have used them in the past as attack dogs. She was so sweet. We used to joke that she'd be useless if we ever got robbed since she would take an immediate liking to anyone that let her sniff them.

But when we lived in the city there were some nights where she would let loose one of the most chilling and scary growls I've ever heard from any breed of dog. And she reserved that particular growl for unknown loiterers.

I've met plenty of "dangerous" dogs that were actually very friendly. Letting them sniff you over and not showing that you're nervous or scared is important, dogs respond to that.

The only bad experience I've had with any type of dog are those little yippy ones. Fuck those rat dogs. I've seen meaner poodles than pit bulls.

I love you, everything burrito.

^Word. My Grandma saved this little old poodle from being put down because it's owner was going to a nursing home. He was sweet for the first week then turned out to be a terror. I dubbed him "demon dog".

That being said I agree with Matt: There are no bad dogs, only bad owners. It's obvious this little poodle was abused in some fashion to make him as mean as a snake.

If you want to see amazingly kind and gentle examples of pit bulls, watch The Dog Whisperer or Pit Boss. Cesar Milan may not be everyone's favorite (though he's changed his methodd and he's far more accepted now among other trainers) but his pit bulls are not only very friendly, but also very patient. They'll let other, more unruly dogs do all sorts of stuff to them (these other dogs aren't pit bulls btw) and they'll just stand and take it.

Shorty on the Pit Boss has a pit bull named Hercules. He's so very loyal to Shorty and friendly towards everyone. He's even a registered disability dog (as Shorty is a little person) and I think he might be a therapy dog, too.

The worst thing about pit bulls is the preconceptions people now have about them. Decades ago, pit bulls were considered "nanny dogs" because they were very patient and gentle with small children.

I read up on this case in detail and I consider my earlier post to have been written in ignorance.

Okay yeah, that seems pretty fair.
