Assholes: A Theory by Aaron James. So far, an interesting and insightful attempt at providing a theory to dealing with a production problem we have as a society.

I'm reading a book called This Book is Full of Spiders: Seriously, Dude, Don't Touch it, the sequel to John Dies at the End.

Spoiler warning, John didn't die at the end.

Is John Dies at the End any good, Cabs?  I've been circling it warily for a while.

I'm reading Justin Cronin's follow-up to The Passage--which was fantastic, btw--The Twelve.  Half-way in and it's as good as its predecessor.

I would say yes, mainly because it's pretty tongue and cheek.  It's almost like a parody of the Lovecraft stories without actually being a parody.

Read "The Hunt for Red October" recently, pretty fun read. I also re-read "The Hobbit" in anticipation for the film - although I'm yet to get a chance to watch it.

YES! WE! ARE!

Currently reading "A Clash of Kings."

I've also read a couple of Jeffrey Archer books lately, due to parts each of nothing better to do while I was in Vietnam, finding a lot of his books cheap, and also a massive JA boner in general.

I've been there, hombre.

Shada, the Doctor Who novelization of the unfinished episode originally written by Douglas Adams. Gareth Roberts wrote the book, and he really manages to capture Adams' voice perfectly. It makes me wonder if a 6th Hitchhiker's book would've been better received if he had written it.

There are so many in-jokes and they're all hilarious, from making fun of the "futuristic" typeface of K-9, to the villain viewing records on the Doctor's whole life (including the Doctor's family and his reason for stealing a TARDIS and leaving Gallifrey) but ignoring most of it because it's not relevant to what he needs to know. Golden stuff.

You want to read John Dies at the End.  It's hilarious.

I have a blog. This is its URL. You should read it. It's about education and skepticism and books and it has a lot of pictures of Batman and Robin in it: https://baldermoon.wordpress.com/

Nothing to do with publishers - Robert Jordan's wife wanted a year long delay before an electronic release so her husbands legacy of having every book reach the top of the bestseller lists wouldn't be in danger.

https://www.brandonsanderson.com/blog/1136/Its-finally-out

Question: Why a delayed ebook release for A Memory of Light?

Answer: This is not my decision or Tor's decision, but Harriet's. She is uncomfortable with ebooks. Specifically, she worries about ebooks cutting into the hardcover sales. It isn't about money for her, as the monetary difference between the two is negligible here. It is about a worry that her husband's legacy will be undermined if sales are split between ebooks and hardcovers, preventing the last book of the Wheel of Time from hitting number one on either list. (Many of the bestseller lists are still handling ebooks in somewhat awkward ways.)

As the last books have all hit number one, she doesn't want to risk one of these not hitting number one, and therefore ending the series on a down note. (Even though each Wheel of Time book has sold more than its predecessor, including the ones I have worked on.) I personally feel her worries are unfounded, and have explained that to her, but it is not my choice and I respect her reasoning for the decision. She is just trying to safeguard Robert Jordan's legacy, and feels this is a very important way she needs to do so. After talking about the issue, we were able to move the ebook up from the originally planned one-year delay to instead come out this spring.
