It's okay.  On rumor that Melanie Rawn might finally publish the last book in her Exiles trilogy, I decided to re-read the first 2/3rds of it.

(Sanderson should totes write Mat, Min and Tuon's Wacky Comedy Adventures in Re-Conquering Seanchan aka Three's Company of the Damned)

Also, recompiled how?  If you have a good plan for recommending books, it might be time to make a new thread.

I've been there, hombre.

Tuon and Min would be the perfect Odd Couple/buddy cop.

Mat and Min as partners, so Tuon can be the Captain ordering them to turn in their badges because they're off this case.

(Furyk Karede is the grizzled old cop only two days from retirement.)

Started reading Elantris by Sanderson yesterday.  It's great so far, but I find that the vast majority of my interest is in Raoden and my main motivation for reading the other two characters' chapters is so I can get to more of him.  Not that they're bad just comparatively kind of uninteresting.

My only objection to Sanderson is that he likes to take his time starting the story, and cram all the awesome stuff into the last fifty pages or so.

I'm definitely getting that vibe from Elantris, but 100 pages in and it's not too bad since it's at least some cool setup.  My biggest problem with it is one that's just inherent to fantasy novels as a whole:  multiple POV characters and not all of them are especially interesting.  I don't dislike Sarene and Hrathen, but they feel like obstacles in the way of all the cool stuff with Raoden.  I wouldn't read a book about JUST them.

Or maybe I'm just too used to things with a single POV character because I don't read much fantasy, but I find it hard to find anything in the genre that has a single main character and/or isn't part of a huge series.  Elantris at least fills tthe second requirement, and despite everything I said I'm enjoying it.  I may have to check out more of Sanderson's stuff after this.

I'd love to create a new recommendation site with  levels of recommendation: Buy It, Borrow It, Burn It. But as far as a thread, I'm not sure what the best way would be other than to make a sticky and kee the first post updated. Maybe take the first  posts for thread puroses and comile our recommendations. Too bad we can't dig into our old FFO thread.

Just make a thread where you can post random books you really like and think others should read and/or ask for recs in whatever criteria it is you're looking for.  That seems the easiest way to go about it.

Hah!  You have no idea how deep this particular rabbit hole goes.

In short, everything Sanderson writes that is originally his is all connected in one universe, and will likely all be combined into one meta-series at the end.  Fortunately, you don't have to care about that to enjoy his various novels.

I'm going to try SCIENCE!

Currently about halfway through Kim Stanley Robinson's 2312. Not quite as engaging as Years of Rice and Salt, but nowhere near as much of a pure bore as Red Mars

So I read up on the Prince of Thorns and King of Thorns books and happily awaiting the next book.  Even made a review of it on goodreads.com, to which the author approved of.

Now to find another book to read.

I have to disagree, I thought the Mars trilogy was brilliant, if a bit dense.  I like to see that 2312 is in continuity with them as well.

(also, everyone should read Antarctica by KSR)

Let's Player

It's probably a bit early to be posting this, but after I finish playing Luigi's Mansion 2, I'll be starting to read Needful Things by King. I can't say I know a whole lot about the story (which is the best way to go into a book imo), but I'm excited. The title reminds me of that Simpsons episode where they buy a monkey paw that grants them 3 wishes each...

...although I'm sure it's nothing like that lmao.

My most recent 3 let's plays:

Zelda: Oracle of Seasons - Link (Din, Onox, Maku...I'm so funny)
Killer7 (Completed) - Link
Luigi's Mansion (Completed!) - Link
My main youtube page: Link

Yep, still gaming

I finished Anna Karenina, almost wishing to skip the Anna parts, in part due to immense pitty for her situation in the end and in part because they weren't as interesting as the Levin parts, whom I loved to pieces until the very end. I thought the book was a mere romantic novel for women and it turned out to be much more, I really recommend it, especially for all the political/religious/social discussion. And now I've started The Big Sleep, I was torn between this and The Maltese Falcon, but I was told to read this one first because I would love Marlowe and so I do!.
