The Demo is out on the PSN and probably Live as well. I never realized how much I missed a Kojima game until today. So far the demo has proved to be challenging and fun. How does everyone else feel about it?

Can somebody move this?

I like it more than I thought I would actually. I've been looking for a fun action game recently and artistically Bayonetta and DmC don't do it for me. My only problem with the game is that judging from the demo you need a strong knowledge of MGS4's plot and I was hoping it would be more stand-alone.

I played it from the Zone of then Enders HD pack.

I like it, but the combat definitely takes some getting used to. At several critical points I went into Blade Mode and lined up my swing and then the swing just never happened, I'm assuming b/c of some error on my part.

Also, the parrying is just weird. The enemies all have clear tells for their attack, and obviously if you parry at the right moment you get the awesome counter attack, but sometimes you can parry ahead of the attack and just hold the parry, and sometimes it just won't do the parry at all. Very frustrating.

I love being able to slice through terrain to bring pieces of it down. At the beginning of the demo I accidentaly cut down the staircase up to the main area and I wound up having to cut more of it down to create a ramp for myself to get up there.

I think it has a lot of potential but I'm probably going to wait for reviews.

I, personally, thought the demo was awful. The slicing mechnic is neat, but the demo was more cutscene than fighting, some of the mechanics (particularly the parry) were a bit frustrating to use (when they actually worked - I had a lot of problems with that), and the boss at the end of it was just stupid.

That, and the combat felt like Yet Another Mashy Platinum Game. Being as I haven't liked any of Platinum's previous games, the demo I awas hoping would be different wasn't, and it left a bit of a sour taste in my mouth. I'll still try the game out, though, since I can't judge the whole thing on a shitty demo. But I'm definitely renting instead of buying now.

Day one purchase. Anything that combines that batshitness of MGS and Vanquish is a day one purchase.

I watched the demo and I share some of what Ashilyn thinks. MGS is a sneaking, strategy game with gaming elements you don't find in other genres.....like action games. It's a beautiful game and works well as a DMC or Bayonetta clone, but not as a MGS title.

Really disappointed. The combat doesn't have any sense of impact and the sneaking is non-existant. Can't believe this is the same company that made Bayonetta.

That's why this is MGR, not MGS.

I loved the demo and I'm looking forward to the game.

I don't think Rising has ever been advertised as a sneaking game.

Ever.

I don't have much interest in the game, because I'm not really a fan of Platinum's games, but complaining about a lack of sneaking in this game is really bizarre. It's a pure action game and it's never been promoted as anything but.

Ever.

It was when it was first announced. The Platinum shift in development turned it into what was supposed to be aballs out action game with a few Metal Gear elements mostly played for laughs. Instead the demo just feels like a sloppy mishmash of button mashing, corridor runnings, and biarre AI.

So, you know, a typical Platinum game.

I don't remember it ever being touted as stealth myself also.

Really, because when it was first announced I thought they'd ditched the "Tactical Espionage Action" tagline straight away and replaced it with the worryingly phrased "Lightning Bolt Action".

Unless Kojima said a throwaway comment in an interview somewhere, all I remember is Raiden slashing the environment up with a big fucking sword in interesting ways. This was before Platinum's involvement, even.

That doesn't seem very stealthy.

I seem to remember there being something about stealth elements. Without that this is just a really frustrating, poorly balanced mess. I mean, why make a Metal Gear game without stealth? I dunno. Just really disappointed.
