I'm glad we haven't heard anything about FFXV.  I'd rather learn about it a year before release than have another Versus XIII where it's announced the morning after Nomura thinks it up, then spends the better part of a decade in development limbo.

They need to learn how to manage their PR and development cycles like Western companies - announce a game at 50/60% completion and wait a year at most for it. Don't announce it 3% into development and tell your fanbase they'll see it in five years.

The upper management at Square-Enix need to be fired for doing such a horseshit job of managing this company. The fact that this game was announced over five years ago and it still isn't complete...Seriously WTF?!

NO GAME should take this long to be made.

What a Tedious fight!

Holy shit, six years ago?! I really didn't realize it was that long ago. It's almost the Duke Nukem of RPGs.

Games that have been/will be announced and released since Versus 13 was announced:

  • Mass Effect 1, 2, 3.
  • Halo 3, ODST, Reach, Anniversary, 4.
  • Uncharted 1, 2, 3, Golden Abyss
  • Fallout 3
  • Duke Nukem

This game is a farce.

I agree that it should be renamed into Final Fantasy XV, for the reason of shedding light back on the series, if nothing else. Versus generates a lot of hype, and a lot of people are thinking it's gonna be great no matter what--while FFs since Final Fantasy XII have accumulated an increasing amount of criticism (or maybe the people are simply more vocal, just because "internet"). All the more reason to rename it. One spin-off title being "that good" doesn't help Square Enix in the longer run.

I'm going to try SCIENCE!

Ladies and Gentlemen, schrodinger's JRPG

Anyone else get the feeling SE is about to collapse under it's own weight? 13 was ass, 13vs barely exists and if I'm not mistaken didn't 14 already die horribly?

As long as they have Eidos to bail them out ... I think they can hold until the end of the next generation.

I think they moved onto the next gen dev kits last year; I expect a huge announcement at next year regarding Square-Enix on the level of the FF9/10/11 announcement they made in 2000.

Frankly if they don't, they're dead in a few years.

I think they should just announce things one game at a time. It seems obvious that Square Enix is currently unable to handle multiple big projects at once. I mean their last big multi-game annoucmment was that FFXIII thing back in E3 2006.

And we know how that turned out. Released a long delayed mainline series that is considered the worst FF ever, a portable game that took almost 5 years and is not excatly taking the sales charts by storm, and  a game that wont even be shown at this year's E3.

Well the fact is they threw more than 250 developers at FF14 2.0, effectively tying up their entire development house on a project that's doomed to failure. As FF14 2.0 will be released in November, their development teams will be free again then.

I get *why* they did it, to save face, but the hardest decisions are not to continue a project, but to know when to stop. Square-Enix hasn't learned this yet.
