I always did this as a kid.  I actually don't like eating in movies since I hit 18 or so.  I find it too distracting and I don't pay attention to the movie as well.

Currently Playing: Dark Cloud 2: 3 hours.
Also Playing: CT, FF VI, Solatorobo, Secret of Mana, Halo 4.
Just Finished: Fable II: 7 hours.

As a long time member, I like all of you guys, so please don't take this personally.

Having said that, it annoys the shit out of me to see posters on the Internet defend blatant and brazen crime just because they want to get free shit., and then rationalize it by appealing to the bogeyman of Internet censorship. I really believe that is what's going on here.

We shouldn't act like a bunch of drama queens and turn this into a first amendment issue when it's really a property issue. The courts will follow due process in prosecuting the owners of the site. I personally think they will lose because there is a litany of evidence that they KNEW they were profiting from stolen material.

Not trying to preach too much here but someone had to step in and be the voice of reason.

If you think SOPA and PIPA have nothing to do with internet censorship, you have no idea what you're talking about. "Voice of reason" my ass.

I was talking about MegaUploads. I actually supported the protests against SOPA/PIPA.

But to clarify, I believe the libertarian knee jerk reactions to that legislation was pretty much the same force behind outrage against the MegaUpload closure.

On yhese issues I have a nuanced opinion which is hard to get across in a web full of libertarian fundamentalism.

DoJ is going to have a hell of a time getting a guilty verdict, that's for sure:

https://www.washingtonpost.com/business/technology/dc-attorney-robert-bennett-to-represent-megaupload-in-piracy-case-promises-vigorous-defense/2012/01/20/gIQAPCzGEQ_story.html

And really, I think the backlash against SOPA/PIPA and the shutdown of MegaUpload is just an extension of all the anger against the corporate plutocracy our country's become over the past few years, like Occupy Wall Street and the dozens, if not hundreds, of Occupy movements across the country.  The RIAA and MPAA aren't doing themselves any favors by openly trying to strong arm politicians with bribes and threats of blackmail.  And then have the audacity to claim that the American people and internet sites who participated in the Anti-SOPA protest "abused their power." Maybe they would be just a tiny bit sympathetic if they didn't come off like Saturday morning cartoon villains.

Also, if the jurors in the MegaUpload case feel the same way, they can find the defendants not guilty due to jury nullification. Even if there's mountains of evidence and they're without a doubt 100% guilty, a non guilty verdict can be reached on the basis that it shouldn't be illegal in the first place.

I want megaupload back because it fills a legitimate need, not because I want free shit.

I love you, everything burrito.

I don't care that MegaUpload was taken down -- it was a scumy site with scumy owners.  But _how_ is an issue.  I'm sure were legitimate users, and they lost both lifetime memberships and now can't access anything they uploaded.  Remember, this all happened without warning and without a trial.  A little scary if you ask me.

I mean, hell, we even gave Saddam Hussein a trial.

Technically, it' was the Iraqi government that gave him a trial, not us.

^ True, although the US did capture and turn him over, knowing that he'd get a trial.  Thanks for the correction, though.

It's not, They done it so no one will oppose it out of fear of being accused of either being in support of paedophilia or simply just being a paedophile.

I'd like to point out that that particular article is from August and the bill in question hasn't really gone anywhere.

Unfortunatley for me piracy is a life blood when it comes to movies. Living in a 3rd world country we don't get many films commercially accessible aside from the mainstream stuff (read Twilight or Transformers).

And its piracy that let me love movies to begin with. Fake DVD's and such has made arthouse, forigen, classic films accessible and made me appreciate movies more. Hence which allowed me to understand movies better and actually increased my attendance in movie theaters.

Killing piracy or online content of movies (or for others music or books) is a mortal blow for many.

Like I said I am willing to pay to watch these movies but if they are not avaialble, what choice do I have.

Like The Help (ok not exactly art house :P ) ... I have not seen that yet because it was not released in my country yet. It came out in the US in August I know, but it was supposed to come out here in Jan 4. As that week loomed the release date dissapeared and no word if its coming out. I could have just watched a pirated copy months earleir but decided to hold if off. And now for what? For nothing?

Sorry for being dramatic ... that's just the way I am. :(
