Grabbed a few more of the new 52 yesterday.

All-Star Western was pretty good. Not my thing, so I don't know if I'll stick with it, but definitely well done and Jonah Hex fans will surely be pleased with it.

The Flash was just plain boring. Not surprising. I'm not a fan of Barry Allen and I don't think the guy that goes fast works well in a medium based on still pictures. Those still pictures were damn pretty though. Love Manapul's art, especially in Flash.

Aquaman was surprisingly good. In fact, it was just plain awesome. I can definitely get behind a comic starring a guy everyone assumes is the lame joke that Superfriends Aquaman was and is clearly tired of it. I wasn't a huge fan of Johns's other comics (they weren't bad, though), but this one has me excited.

And as far as good Batman collections go, No Man's Land if you want to read something long. Bruce Wayne: Murderer and Bruce Wayne: Fugitive are both great. Face the Face if you want a good Two-Face story. And definitely grab The Black Mirror when it comes out in November.

I recommend Morrison's run, starting with Batman and Son along with Knightfall, which I think is a totally underappreciated classic.

"Of Christ's twelve Apostles Judas alone proved to be traitor. But if he had acquired power, he would have represented the other eleven Apostles as traitors, and also all the lesser Apostles whom Luke numbers as seventy." - Leon Trotsky

I have a blog. This is its URL. You should read it. It's about education and skepticism and books and it has a lot of pictures of Batman and Robin in it: https://baldermoon.wordpress.com/

I have Knightfall checked out from the library right now. It's next, after I read Siege. Then vols. 5 and 6 of JLI and X-Men: First Class.

I know how they work

According to Didio:

"So that's no Crisis On Infinite Earths, Identity Crisis or Final Crisis. Probably no Zero Hour either.

Of course that does take away Batman RIP and the events that led into Batman Inc, a bit.

Hmm.

It will all work out in the wash, I'm sure."

I would wish for something bad to happen to him, but he's already Dan Didio, so...

How the fuck is it possible that Swamp Thing, Animal Man and Action Comics are even better than last month's issues?

Stormwatch #2 was also MUCH better than #1. Holy fuck do I love how I wouldn't want to have a conversation or even be in the same building as any of these people.

I wasn't gonna read Animal Man at first, but damn am I glad I decided to give it a shot last month because it's awesome.  Swamp Thing was good but it felt like a big infodump.  I'm glad all that stuff is out of the way, though, so now the story can really get going.  I'm really curious where both of these comics are going.

Huntress had a really fun start, and Stormwatch still makes no sense but is so awesome it doesn't matter.  It really does feel like a Wildstorm team in the DCU proper.

Not sure what to think about Red Lanterns.  It's not bad but I'm not reading Red Lanterns for angsty Atrocitus contemplating the best way to go about doing things and philosphising about the nature of rage.  I just want to see some angry space dudes burning people's faces off.

Warren Ellis already writes a better Avengers comic than Bendis.  It only took one issue.

Secret Avengers. I think it's either 4 or 6 issues all with stand alone stories.  So far two have come out, #16 and #17.

It ends with somebody cutting off the Joker's face with a knife at the Joker's behest and nailing it to the wall of his cell in Arkham Asylum.

Is this permanent, or just in that book?  New readers who get all the Batman books are going to be confused when the Joker's the Joker in one book and the Red Skull in another.

That's just the sing that'll turn new readers off, the very thing this whole reboot was done to avoid.

It took Marvel like twenty years to realize that people wanted Spider-Man, but didn't want to read 37 different Spider-Man books.  Is DC doing this from day one?

Oh, no, DC realized that.  Back in 2005 when Infinite Crisis happened, hey canceled all their Batman books except for Batman and Detective Comics for that very reason.

Then in 2008 or so they had like six Batman books.

As for the Joker thing, I dunno what's going on there.  I just tell all my friends who are getting into comics because of the new 52 to just read Batman and ignore the other three comics about Bruce.

It's clearly something that will be put back to normal with the conclusion of this arc, seeing as how the second issue ended with Gordon having his face patched together with other people's faces, and yes it is just stupid as it sounds.

Resurrection Man continues to be every bit as awesome as I'd hoped it would be.

And I had high, nearly impossible hopes for this book.

EDIT:  Also, fuck yeah Batwoman.  That Batman, Inc spread near the start confirmed the continued existence of my two favorite DC ladies.  I was worried about Question and Manhunter, but no more.

Now somebody just needs to give them some comics to be in.
