... is out tomorrow.  Who has their pre-order and is ready to curb stomp the Lord of Fear?  What are your expectations?  What do you think of any changes from D2 to now?  Vote on the poll and mention it in your post, and also, discuss shit.

Personally, my biggest gripe is the graphics change.  Too cartoony... should've left that style for WoW.  Of course, I assume, trying to establish familiarity amongst the legions of WoW fans is probably the reason why they did this.

I liked the changes for each class and their unique mana system.  Also the orbs.  Mostly because both of these fall into the category of reducing the pot chugging.  Maybe I can finally play a Diablo game w/o my hands hovering over 1/2/3/4 the whole time?

I see where they were going with the skill equip system.  I think I'm still undecided, but I might tentatively give it a thumbs up.  Gives me a chance to play around more with the same character without having to roll a new one.  (I'd rather just roll a new character for a different class.)  I'm just worried that for each class, a certain set of skills are clearly "the best" and everyone will just equip those.  In D2 this was somewhat mitigated because the classes had trees and the trees catered to a playstyle.  You would have to have several non-optimal skills and miss out on some awesome stuff if it wasn't in the tree you were building.  Speaking about character personalization, I kinda know about the rune system, but since I haven't had a hands-on experience.   Anyone else have thoughts on that?

Oh and 8 -> 4 people per instance can suck my balls.  :(

Sirlin's thoughts on why Diablo 2 was an unbalanced, borderline broken game and why D3's new system kicks the shit out of it.

I played the beta and I was really impressed, and I'm someone who couldn't stand D2. It's also not cartoony in the slightest. I really don't get why people still think that. It's plenty dark and gory. And also doesn't look much like World of Warcraft.

Anyway, I got the game pre-installed. Got the WoW annual pass and "free Diablo III" is a nice little bonus of that. Probably going Monk since that's the class I played most in the beta and had a lot of fun with it.

Picking it up, going Demon Hunter for the first go around cause I love playing Amazon and Assassin.

Really enjoyed the open beta a few weeks ago. Can't wait to see what else is in store.

And Sirlin....I'm not gonna say he's wrong, cause he's usually not wrong. But man that guy is the Capcom of Board Games.

Game is installed and updated.  I think I'll be playing Monk as well.  I enjoyed it the most during the beta.

Raphael
Eternal Lurker

I got my copy in the mail today (along a pretty nifty steelbook case) and plan on trying wizard first. I haven't read anything about the game, so I can't really comment any further for now.

I want to go back.

I'm gonna be playing a Witch Doctor. Everyone else in my apartment took tomorrow off so they could just play all day, but I have to work so I'm gonna miss it. :( fffffffffff All I want to do is throw flaming skulls at things forever.

Also, I kind of hope the game is super imbalanced, that was part of the charm of D2. If they're diligent about patching the insanely broken specs then I'll be a little disappointed. I don't want anyone to be robbed of the experience of this generation's Hammerdin!

I need to mess with Wizard and Witch Doctor once the game goes live tomorrow. Pretty much know what I'll get into with Barbarian if it's anything like its D2 incarnation. And I liked Monk a little more than Demon Hunter. But witch doctor and wizard sound like fun.

Collector's Edition will soon be mine and I won't see the outside world except for work for quite a while. No idea which class I'll go with though.

ManjiSanji
Insanity Mongoose

Not really surprising, but logging in is impossible right now.

Which, of course, wouldn't be a problem if there was an offline mode...

I am currently laughing at all the raging going on about how my FB friends can't log in to Diablo's servers.

Aaaah, how's that "always online" working out for everyone? If this becomes an industry-standard because of D3 success, I at least am comforted by the thought that I did not choose for it.

yes

The "always online" thing is bullshit to the max level, but I had fun with the beta even if it was super easy so maybe I'll check it out down the line.

People seriously played Diablo II offline?

Even when I was going solo I always played online just because your single player characters didn't transfer to multi. Why waste all that time in offline single player?

I mean, I understand it, I've just never actually met anyone who played offline Diablo.

I'm thinking of Diablo 3 as an MMO with an optional solo mode (and in my case f2p without the usual BS that comes with f2p thanks to the WoW Annual Pass), so the always online thing doesn't really bother me that much.

I have never played Diablo online. When it was released in the late 90s, online gaming wasn't really big in our place, except LAN. That's why I get pissed with people making a blanket statement like "D2 was an online game and it was meant to be played multiplayer!" as if the concept is absurd. D2 is a great single-player game. The idea of getting a rare loot is as exciting offline as it is online. I have friends I trade stories with every day and we compare rares and uniques. I can't understand what's so strange about that.
