DO ... WANT ... NOW.

Seriously, though, this demo alone reveals a game that looks about a million times more fun than Oblivion ever was, and a world much richer. Those finishing moves were pretty sweet, too, although I can imagine them getting tiresome after the 50th time like they did in Fallout 3/New Vegas.

EDIT: Thanks for fixing my typo, Indy.

The Skyrim Blog seems to be a pretty reliable source of info about the game. I really like their detailed explanation of the perks and skills. One-handed vs. two-handed skill, and the perks therein for different types of weapons will lead to some viable weapon variety (as opposed to previous ES entries where longswords were God tier, period). The pickpocketing perks look pretty badass, too.

Also, weapons and armor no longer degrade. I don't know how many will agree with me, but that's one sacred cow I'm glad is getting slaughtered. I never found it fun having to open up the repair screen after every three fights.

I'm glad to see there's so few skills. I was worried that my warrior character wouldn't be able to get decent enchantments if I had to spend all my time leveling combat stuff.

trust me, i'm a doctor

Looks like Bethesda's taking some pages from Obsidian's playbook in regards to factions. I like, I like.

  • the reputation system has been developed and enhanced from Fallout:New Vegas. You can curry favour with the heads of Holds by doing quests for them, and thus being liked by the local guards to the extent that they will even turn a blind eye to your misdemeanours. That sounds awesome!
  • Even more exciting is that you can turn the Holds against one another. The article reports that the player character ended up starting a war between two rival militias!

When this game is released I will not see the outside world for some time. It's a fact.

Getting close:

Someone on Bethesda's forums has spoiled all the perk trees. If you've got a type of character in mind to develop, you might want to check it out.

I already know I'll be playing a Paladin-type character, focusing heavily on One Handed (swords), Heavy Armor, Block, Restoration, Alteration and Speech (pretty much in that order).

Even seeing that I don't know what I want to play. I pretty much always default to some form of sneaky archer, but I'm thinking of going full magic for shits and giggles. So many decisions, gah.

Oh, and it's probably easier to just go to the wiki, where I guess this stuff's been up for a while.

Atma Weapon
I Am Pure Energy

It looks amazing but I have an inexplicable hatred for first person perspective games. Always have; not sure why.

Is there a 3rd person mode?

There was in the previous Elder Scrolls game, Oblivion.

Yeah in Oblivion you just had to click one of the thumbsticks IIRC (on 360 version anyway).

That's good news. That trailer looked like an offline game in a MMO-scale world.

Morrowind had a third person mode, too. And I've seen demo videos of Skyrim being played in third person. Would sorta defeat the whole purpose of having an intricate CAC if you couldn't ever see your character's face. :P

I have to work a 17 hour day Saturday, including at Gamestop where I'll be selling it to others while I can't play. Fuck.
