Looks fun enough.  I dunno if it'll be worth seeing in theaters but I enjoyed the last one enough to want to see this.

Action trailers need to stop using the Inception Noise so much though.

Point: Was Carol Marcus ever a member of Star Fleet? Or was she just a scientist in the United Federation of Planets. I'm not remembering 'Wrath of Khan' very well right now.

Final trailer: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5ec_rPApKCA

It's filled with spoiler moments so avoid if you're sensitive.

Look at the size of that
Spoiler: Move your mouse over the container to reveal.

The ship crashing into the lake/pond/ocean/whatever still looks epic as fuck. Great trailer.

So, I'm hearing rumors about the ship, ranging from time travel to a prototype to...

The Mirror Verse.

The Star Trek Countdown Into Darkness comic has a few hints.

Spoiler: Move your mouse over the container to reveal.

Nothing major (that at least I can figure out), but Admiral Pike tells Kirk to swear to secrecy about the Prime Directive being violated to prevent Klingons from taking over a colony planet. If I could guess, there's a secret faction to Starfleet that knows a war with the Klingons is inevitable and has been building up secret forces for a takeover.

Wonder if that secret organization is Section 31?

That's what I thought when I saw an Enterprise-like ship that was just bigger and meaner looking.  Perhaps a mirrorverse Excelsior?

Just back from a midnight showing. I like it, though it's not as good as the first one.
In some respect I think they pandered to the fans too much, with some dialogue taken directly from some of the old movies.

It's got a deus ex machina which is actually called out by someone half way through the movie, so you know it'll be a plot point near the end. Bugged the hell out of me. Anyway, (heavy spoilers identifying who a certain person is):

Spoiler: Move your mouse over the container to reveal.

Yeah, so Khan. Section 31 was created after Vulcan was destroyed and their mandate is to militarize Starfleet. In exploring deep space for new technologies they found the Botany Bay and revived Khan to use his knowledge to further their cause, holding his crew hostage. Not a bad way to shoehorn him I suppose. Terrific acting from Cumberbatch, he's a scary dude. Loved how they showed him being able to wipe the floor with *anyone*. The Section 31 ship - the USS Vengeance - is badass.

The blood thing was shit though, sorry. Kirk pulls a Wrath of Khan engine room maneuver, dies, and Khan's regenerative blood brings him back. Bah.

.... Is- is your interest dwindling because the movie has a bad twist/is itself bad
or
because now you know how it ends?

I don't want to spoil myself, but I also don't want to watch a bad movie.

Because of said twist, not the knowledge of said twist. This was one movie that I wanted spoiled beforehand so I could decide whether or not I would go and see it.

Just to elaborate on how bad the scene is

Spoiler: Move your mouse over the container to reveal.

Half way through the movie Khan and Kirk are in sickbay having an argument. To change the subject Kirk glances over at McCoy, who's working on a dead tribble.

"What are you working on Bones?"
"Applying Khan's blood to a dead tribble's necrotised flesh."

At the end of the movie just after Kirk dies, said tribble comes back to life. I actually facepalmed in the theatre.

Star Trek has become science fantasy, not fiction. If you're not okay with the idea odds are you'll hate the movie. I still think it's worth going to see though, and may go again.
