I have no idea how this game is getting perfect scores. I'm about 2/3rds(23ish hours) through and I don't know whats driving me to finish it. I guess maybe the fact that I feel so close to the end.

Stupid mandatory "minigames", fetch quests, escort quest, fighting the same boss multiple times(none of the times are fun), retreading the same tired area, bad controls....

This game plays like a game that came out 10 years ago. I feel like a large factor in the perfect scores is a new non-handheld Zelda comes out once every 5 years so it's always been awhile since you've played a new one and nostalgia. For pretty much every gamer there was some "awesome" Zelda game out when they were a kid.

I'm sure many of you guys will disagree with me but this is the first game to actively infuriate me with mechanics or unresponsiveness of controlls in a long time.

Is this game getting positive comments from other gamers playing it early? I can't believe I'm the only one who feels this way.

I read the EGM review (which rated it the lowest so far at 8.5) and the response sounded a lot like yours. The reviewer simply was not receptive to the control scheme, and that colored his perception of several other elements of the game.

Conversely, the perfect scores came from critics/reviewers who were much more receptive to a fully motion-control game. To them, the concept works like such a dream that it makes otherwise mundane tasks exciting and engaging.

On a more personal note, you may not be standing on solid ground to be so strongly criticizing a game that you didn't even pay for.

Piracy is theft; you can rationalize it by pointing at Xenoblade if you want, but that doesn't change the basic facts of the matter. Sorry to sound soapboxy, but this is a topic I feel pretty strongly about.

I have the right to have whatever opinion I want. But seeing as how what I'm entitled to feel is not the topic of this thread, I'll drop it.

And my problems aren't just with the motion controls, it's with everything in between the dungeons. The dungeons are fun and thats the reason I'm still playing, everything else I dislike and seem like fluff to get your play time up.

My first time in this thread, but I wanted to point out that Nintendo tapped Mike (Gabe from Penny Arcade) to do a bit of promotional work for the new Legend of Zelda game.

Here's the site that will add the images.

And for kicks, here's the first image, only a bit wider.

Help me decide!!!

Wasn't going to worry about getting this game yet - will want it eventually, but I have plenty of games now and want Skyrim for Christmas.  Then I realized the bundle with the Wiimote is a limited pre-order thing.  It's $70 (and you can still get it on Best Buy), and the game is $50 and a Wii Motion Plus is $25.  Trying to decide if I should skip Skyrim and get this for Christmas instead.  But honestly how long will it be until either the game or the WMP goes down in price?  Can't decide!!!

I thought Phantom Hourglass was way worse than Spirit Tracks. ST at least and some interesting puzzles and boss fights. Take away the cheesy train ride sequences and you have yourself a much better game.

But you can't take them away. If you know a cheat code that does I'd sure like to know.

Comparing this to the other reviews I've read, this is pretty contrarian. He found a way to deride everything about the structure and the gameplay, which have usually been exhaulted. Either he just is not into the motion controls, or the he isn't good at them. Also interesting that he cherry picked Lizalfos as an enemy that is too easy, since they are always among the weakest and earliest you encounter.

Still it is good to see a different point of view, and I really expected to hear more of this.

I know I'm going to be the dissenting opinion and I'm mainly debating with people who haven't played the game and reviewers but this is how I kind of see it

The amount of changes/improvements in this franchise I think can be compared to with this analogy, Ocarina of Time is to Skyward Sword as Assassin's Creed 1 is to Assassin's Creed: Revelations. The difference being that it took Nintendo 15 years to make the same amount of improvements that a different publisher made in around 4 years.

I know they are 2 completely different games and genres but I'm solely talking about the improvements made to the game.

I'd think that if Revelations were to come out in it's current state in 10 years that people would not be happy with the product.

Thanks for injecting some realism and a dissenting opinion. That will help me experience the game with a higher level of scrutiny, while still trying to enjoy it.

Games are supposed to be fun. Obsessing over the critic reviews usually degenerates into either snobbery or fanboyism. Neither is healthy. Sorry that you're not loving it, but no creation can possibly appeal to everyone's individual tastes.

Beat the game, about 30 hours or so.

Dungeons are excellent and in a lot of ways over shadow the negatives I personally have with the game. The problem is that dungeons probably equal about 30% of play time, with that other 70% being material I would rank as adequate at best.

When I was posting on the forums, it was inbetween dungeons with content that I hated. But when I was actually in a dungeon, I was too busy enjoying the experience to post on the forums.

I'm hearing that all over the place. Dungeons great, overworld bad. Making me think twice about going through with the efforts to pirate this. Or would make me think twice if I wasn't preoccupied with Skyrim and about to dive into Saints Row 3.

I ended up deciding to strongly suggest this to my husband as a Christmas prestent - Best Buy is doing a $10 gift card with purchase of the limited edition next week.  So Zelda plus Wiimote + for $60 is a good deal.

What's in the overworld that is so bad...?

I heard they took dungeon elements, like puzzles and mini-bosses, into the over world. Which I think is a great idea. Hyrule field always made the world feel epic in scope, but in reality it was just dungeons connected by desolate spaces sprinkled with the occasional cracked wall or explodable rock.

The biggest criticism of the over world has been that you revisit the same areas multiple times to explore newly unlocked content, instead of visiting more environments one-time each (or perhaps twice if you want to double back and collect Heart Pieces or whatever.

I am not bothered by the idea as long as I'm not repeating the exact same fights and puzzles. I understand it's another creative way of overcoming the Wii's limitations. Quality over quantity?

Calling anything on the overworld a puzzle or a mini-boss is quite a stretch. Most of the puzzles on the overworld were just elaborate fetch quests. It just was really annoying to be in one area trying to progress to do a dungeon when you find out that you need to go back to another for one item. And there are instances when you think to yourself, "Alright, this one is going to be quick and easy. I know exactly where I need to go, I'll just use one of the quick travel locations to get there and get out and be in a dungeon really fast." To find out that quick traveling is not an option. One of those times I was thinking that, I got saddled with a really dumb escort quest through an area that I had already traveled through once.

And I guess that is part of the Zelda formula, fetch quests. But to me that just feels like such a tired and dated mechanic that only serves to pad play time.
